Fishermen are excited when docking
At the end of the year, the weather is favorable, the demand for seafood consumption is high, and seafood prices are high, so Ha Tinh fishermen are excited to go offshore and stick to the sea. From early morning, at Thach Kim fishing port (Loc Ha commune), boats and ships have flocked to the port to sell seafood. On the shore, there are bustling buyers and sellers.

Fisherman Tran Van Dung (born 1979, residing in Bac Hai village, Thach Khe commune, Ha Tinh province) docked at the port to sell seafood - shared: "In my commune, there is no fishing port, so every time I catch seafood, I dock at Thach Kim Port to sell seafood. Before the port was expanded, the space was cramped and crowded, it was very difficult. Now the port is expanded, ships can comfortably anchor without worrying about colliding with other ships and boats.
According to Mr. Dung, this year's pre-Tet weather is favorable, seafood prices are higher, and consumption demand is high, so when fish are caught, small traders buy them all right at the port, making fishermen very excited.
My boat mainly goes to catch shrimp near the shore. On lucky days, when we have a big catch, my husband and I only fish for a few hours and earn nearly 10 million VND," Mr. Dung shared.

The investment project to expand Thach Kim Fishing Port (former Thach Kim commune, now Loc Ha commune) with a total investment of 60 billion VND, will be completed and put into operation at the end of 2025.
At Cua Nhuong fishing port (Thien Cam commune), boats also parked fully in front of the port area to sell seafood. This is a newly invested fishing port with a total cost of 280 billion VND, completed and put into operation from the end of November 2025.
Cua Nhuong fishing port has a 270 m long wharf system, of which 150 m is for ships with a capacity of 400 CV and 120 m for ships under 150 CV. The channel into the port is 40 m wide and -4 m deep.
The water area for ships to dock and the water area in front of the wharf both reach the designed depth of -4 m. The total area of the port land reaches 5.4 ha, the port water area is 11.6 ha. Cua Nhuong fishing port has a capacity of 100 ship arrivals/day, and the volume of seafood cargo through the port is 16,000 tons/year.

Fisherman Nguyen Xuan Tinh (65 years old, residing in Hai Bac village, Thien Cam commune) said that the modern Cua Nhuong fishing port put into operation helps local fishermen have a place to dock to sell clean and convenient seafood.
“Before, there was no port, we fishermen caught and sold seafood on sand dunes, sometimes seafood was dirty with soil and sand, which was very hard. Now there is a new, spacious and clean port, which is very convenient for both fishermen and small traders to buy seafood,” Mr. Tinh shared.
Need to dredge the channel to welcome large ships to dock
According to fisherman Nguyen Xuan Tinh, although Cua Nhuong fishing port is invested with large and modern funds to meet the needs of fishermen to dock at ports to sell seafood. However, the channel into the seaport has been silted up. Therefore, many large capacity ships find it difficult to enter the port and go out to sea when the tide recedes. Therefore, we really hope that functional sectors will continue to dredge the channel into the port so that this fishing port can best promote its function, helping fishermen to conveniently and feel secure in sticking to the sea to earn a living.
Similarly, at Thach Kim expanded fishing port, the channel in and out of the port is also silted up, making it difficult for local fishermen to allow large capacity ships to enter and exit the port at low tide.

Mr. Than Quoc Te - Deputy Director of the Ha Tinh Fishing Ports Authority - said that the investment in building a new Cua Nhuong Fishing Port and the project to expand Thach Kim Fishing Port put into operation has brought great convenience to fishermen in docking to sell seafood as well as receiving fuel to go fishing. At the same time, it is also convenient for functional agencies in controlling ships and boats, controlling the amount of seafood coming through the port.
Also according to Mr. Te, besides the advantage of having a modern fishing port with spacious space, there are still concerns that the channel into the port has been silted up, which has somewhat affected when large-capacity ships and boats enter and exit the port when the tide recedes.

I learned that Ha Tinh province has proposed a project to dredge the channel into the fishing port in Cua Nhuong, but is currently waiting for the decision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. I really hope this proposal will be approved soon to deploy channel dredging, helping fishermen conveniently go to sea to fish and dock at ports to sell seafood. From there, it will help them feel secure in sticking to the sea," Mr. Than Quoc Te shared.
