Hanoi - Elderly people are still allowed to use physical cards (with chips attached) when using subsidized buses in the city.

There will be a new model physics card with a chip

Information that Hanoi is implementing changes from paper monthly tickets to electronic traffic ticket cards on all subsidized bus routes in the city has received much attention from people.

Regarding the group of free subjects including elderly people aged 60 and over, children under 6 years old, people with meritorious services, people with disabilities and people from poor households, on the morning of July 21, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Tran Thi Phuong Thao - Deputy Director of the Hanoi City Traffic Management and Operation Center (Tramoc) affirmed that the above group of subjects is still allowed to use physical cards (with a new model - PV).

Basically, the new physical card model is different from the old model in that it has an additional chip to identify when getting on the car. Currently, we are still receiving applications to exchange cards from people, the first card return is expected from July 26 - July 30, 2026. For valid applications submitted later, the card return time is expected to be 5-10 days from the date Tramoc receives them," Ms. Tran Thi Phuong Thao informed.

Thus, in addition to using citizen identification cards and virtual cards (non-physical cards), groups of passengers eligible for free policies are still allowed to use physical cards with chips. For non-chip physical cards (old models), passengers are allowed to use them until December 31, 2026.

Passengers register to exchange cards online

According to Tramoc, the receipt of registration dossiers is carried out entirely online, starting from July 6, 2026 on the website vedientuonline. com. vn.

The registration dossier includes a photo of both sides of the citizen identification card and a portrait of the card user.

People can choose one of two forms of card receipt, including receiving directly at the Hanoi City Traffic Management and Operation Center (No. 1 Kim Ma, Giang Vo ward, Hanoi) during office hours or receiving via express delivery service at the registered address, with transportation costs collected by the delivery unit according to regulations.

According to Tramoc, the deployment of free chip-based electronic physical cards aims to diversify usage forms, creating more convenience for people in the process of using subsidized public passenger transport services by bus in Hanoi City, especially the elderly.
