From around 8:00 p.m. on January 27 (28th of Tet), the number of vehicles pouring into routes such as April 30, Hoa Binh Avenue (Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City) to get to the Can Tho art flower street area and entertainment spots in the central area gradually increased, creating a prolonged traffic jam.
Vehicles from motorbikes to cars had to jostle each other to move forward. However, drivers still followed traffic safety rules. Meanwhile, to avoid traffic jams, some people visiting the flower street chose to park their vehicles far away and walk to the tourist attraction.
Ms. Tran Thi Song Thu (Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City) said that she and her family went out early to avoid traffic jams. But as the evening wore on, more and more people came out to celebrate Tet, and she and her family struggled for quite a while to get to the flower street to visit.
“Tomorrow is New Year’s Eve, my family has to stay home to worship, so we took advantage of today to go out. Although we knew the roads would be crowded during Tet, we didn’t expect the traffic jams to be this serious, especially on the roads adjacent to the city’s flower art street,” Ms. Thu shared.
Having to inch forward due to traffic jams, Mr. Bao (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) said that although it was difficult to move, all vehicles obeyed traffic laws, especially stopping at red lights.
“Traffic jams are inevitable when going out during Tet. Although it is tiring, I still try to take my family out once a year. Even though there is a traffic jam, seeing everyone obeying traffic laws makes me feel more secure when going out,” said Mr. Bao.
