The groundbreaking ceremony of component project 1 of the Son La - Dien Bien - Tay Trang border gate expressway (phase 1) is considered a milestone marking the beginning of a new development journey for Dien Bien and the entire Northwest region.
Mr. Le Thanh Do - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council - emphasized that the expressway does not stop at the role of shortening travel distances.
This is also a project of strategic significance in the regional development structure when forming a high-speed traffic axis connecting from Hanoi - Hoa Binh - Son La - Dien Bien, and at the same time expanding trade doors with Tay Trang Border Gate, creating an economic corridor towards North Laos, Thailand, and the Yunnan region (China).

The Son La - Dien Bien - Tay Trang Border Gate expressway section (phase 1) has a length of 48.3 km passing through Dien Bien province, a cross-section scale of 22m, 4 complete lanes, with a speed of 80 km/h. Total investment is over 23,252 billion VND.
This is the largest public investment project ever in Dien Bien province, the project is divided into 2 component projects: Compensation, support, resettlement, site clearance; Construction investment.
