On July 29, information from Phuoc Hau Commune Police said that the unit had received 2 animal individuals from people to coordinate with specialized agencies to handle according to regulations.
Previously, Phuoc Hau Commune Police received 1 python individual voluntarily handed over by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Trieu (born 1983, residing in Phuoc Dong 1 village).
According to initial information, on the afternoon of July 26, while visiting the garden, Mr. Trieu discovered a python crawling in the garden area. Realizing that this was a wild animal that needed to be protected, he kept it and reported it to the commune police.
During this time, Mr. Mang Hao (born 1990, residing in Lien Son 2 village) discovered a turtle crawling into the field, so he kept it and reported it to the police.
Phuoc Hau Commune Police coordinated with the Ninh Phuoc - Thuan Nam Regional Forest Protection Department and the Commune Economic Department to identify the individual handed over by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Trieu as a brocade python (scientific name: Python reticulatus), about 1.8m long, 4.2kg weighing, belonging to Group IIB.
The individual handed over by Mr. Mang Hao was identified as an ergot turtle (scientific name: Centrochelys sulcata), belonging to Appendix II of the CITES Convention and under management according to the provisions of Vietnamese forestry law.
According to functional agencies, both individuals are in good health and are undergoing the process of receiving and handling according to regulations.
Phuoc Hau Commune Police assessed that the voluntary handover of animals by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Trieu and Mr. Mang Hao is a meaningful action, contributing to raising community awareness in wildlife conservation and biodiversity protection.
