In recent days, the water level on rivers in Ninh Binh has risen, combined with heavy rain, causing widespread flooding. Especially in the communes of Gia Tien, Gia Hung, Gia Thinh, Gia Phong, Gia Hoa (Gia Vien district); Xich Tho, Gia Thuy, Lac Van, Gia Lam, Dong Phong, Gia Son, Thuong Hoa, Son Thanh (Nho Quan district); Yen Lam, Yen Thai, Khanh Duong (Yen Mo district)...
According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ninh Binh province, as of September 14, heavy rain for many consecutive days has caused thousands of hectares of unharvested rice to be flooded.
According to Lao Dong reporters, on September 14, taking advantage of the sunny weather, people in Lac Van commune (Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh) rushed to the fields to harvest rice to minimize damage.
Mr. Dinh Hong Tuyen (Lac 2 village, Lac Van commune) said that this year, his family planted 5 sao of rice. The rice is almost ready for harvest but is completely submerged due to heavy rains and floods.
"The rice has only ripened about 30-40% and if it is flooded like that, it is considered a total loss. Today (September 14) the weather is sunny, so my family will go harvest to see if we can salvage any little bit" - Mr. Tuyen shared.
Similarly, this year's crop, Mrs. Quach Thi Nam's family (Lac 1 village, Lac Van commune) also planted 4 sao of rice. However, due to heavy rains and floods, her family's entire rice field has been submerged for many days.
"Because the flooded rice fields cannot be harvested by mechanical means such as harvesters, they must be harvested by hand, so progress is very slow. The young rice harvested is only used as animal feed and cannot be eaten by humans," Ms. Nam shared.
Looking at the rice fields that were about to be harvested and were deeply submerged in water, Ms. Bui Thi Huyen (Cam Dia village, Lac Van commune) could not help but feel heartbroken, all the effort and investment she had put into caring for them was now lost.
"The house has been flooded for several days now, the electricity has been out for several days now, the whole family has been relying on charity groups to provide food and drink. Sitting at home is also frustrating, so today we took advantage of the sunny weather to go see how the fields are, but seeing them all white like this, we have lost everything" - Ms. Huyen shared.
