Ho Chi Minh City residents are upset because sidewalks have not been paved in time, garbage and syringes have been covered

HCMC - The roads around Tan Son Nhat airport are full of garbage and syringes, causing pollution and threatening the safety of road users.

The roads that have just been invested with hundreds of billions of VND to serve infrastructure connections around Tan Son Nhat airport are becoming shabby due to illegal dumping, even with scattered injection needles, causing concerns about hygiene and safety for people.

According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, on streets such as Hoang Hoa Tham, Phan Thuc Duyen, 18E (Tan Binh District), illegal dumping occurs frequently. Household waste and construction materials are scattered on the sidewalk. Not only household waste has appeared, some areas have also appeared full of syringes thrown haphazardly, posing a potential safety risk to people and pedestrians.

Not far away, on Phan Thuc Duyen Street, although there had been garbage spreading onto the roadside and sidewalks, the authorities had collected it, the garbage situation continued to recur in the cornered locations on the sidewalk, the vacant lots.

Notably, these routes are near the T3 terminal area of Tan Son Nhat airport that has just been put into operation. Despite the expectation of a spacious and modern traffic look, these spontaneous landfills are tarnishing the image of the area.

Mr. Pham Anh Khoi, a resident living near this area, shared that the situation of waste in this area often occurs.

"Every morning when I walk for exercise, I see garbage flooding the roadside. One day I even saw broken glass and a knife lying on the sidewalk, which was extremely dangerous, said Mr. Khoi.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, a trader near the Hoang Hoa Tham Street expansion project, said that the people here are very upset about the situation of waste and pollution.

"The road is clear, spacious, and airy, but the sidewalk is not yet finished, so people keep secretly dumping garbage, if the collection units cannot catch up, the garbage will increase, giving off a foul smell, even if there are needles for injection, it is too scary, so I do not dare to approach that area like that," Ms. Hoa shared and hoped the authorities would soon handle the above situation.

It is known that Hoang Hoa Tham Street was opened to traffic at the end of January 2025, however, because some areas are still in the process of handover, the overall construction has not been completed, leading to many deserted areas becoming ideal places for people without awareness to illegally dump garbage.

In order to overcome the above situation, the transportation briefcase cooperated with the People's Committee of Tan Binh District to conduct a warning sign, organize regular garbage clearance, and propose to strengthen patrol and sanction violations. Many people still hope that in order to solve the root, they still need more fierce participation from the authorities and especially the common sense of the people.

The Hoang Hoa Tham road expansion project is invested by the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Management Board, with a length of nearly 800m, a width of 22m, and a total investment of nearly 300 billion VND.

Hoang Hoa Tham Street and the Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road will connect directly to the T3 terminal of Tan Son Nhat airport, opening more access to the airport and reducing traffic pressure for the main entrance on Truong Son Street.
