On May 5, news from Bac Cam Ranh Ward Police said that they had received 1 pangolin individual voluntarily handed over by two citizens in the area.
The two people who handed over were Mr. Ly Chu Tai (born in 2003) and Mr. Nguyen Hoang Long (born in 2005, both residing in Hoa Do 6B Residential Group).
On the afternoon of May 4, while walking in the Long Ho bridge area, the two men discovered an animal suspected of being a pangolin.
Realizing that this could be a rare and precious wild animal, both took the initiative to bring it to Bac Cam Ranh Ward Police to report and hand it over.
After receiving it, the Ward Police coordinated with the Ward People's Committee and Cam Lam - Cam Ranh Forest Protection Department to conduct verification.
The results determined that this is a pangolin individual belonging to group IB - a group of particularly endangered and rare forest animals, and also on the list of extremely endangered (CR) according to the IUCN Red Book.
Functional forces have completed the necessary procedures and handed over the pangolin individual to the Forest Protection Department for further handling according to the provisions of law.
Representatives of Bac Cam Ranh Ward Police assessed that the timely and correct action of the two citizens is commendable, contributing to raising community awareness in wildlife protection and ecological environment.
The police agency also advises people not to hunt, raise, farm, trade or illegally transport wild animals.
When detecting related cases, it is necessary to promptly notify functional agencies for handling according to regulations.
