Speaking to Lao Dong, Ms. Nguyen Thi Trang (Nam Sach district, Hai Duong province) said that when she saw the children falling into the lake, she immediately jumped into the lake to save them. Due to her poor health, Ms. Trang had to work very hard to bring the children to shore safely.
Recalling the moment she saved the children, Ms. Trang said: "Thinking back now, I'm still scared. At that time, the lake was about 5m deep, the children were almost exhausted, my strength was limited but at that time, I only thought about how to save them.
I crossed the railing which was over 1 meter high and jumped into the lake. It was with great difficulty that I brought the children to shore. The weather was very cold that day, and when they reached the shore, their faces were pale from being in the water for so long."
According to Ms. Trang, the lake area has no steps to the shore so it is very slippery, making it even more difficult to get the children to shore. Every afternoon, Ms. Trang feels scared because she is haunted by the moment of saving the children.
"Only those who have experienced the life-or-death moment can understand my feelings at that time. If we had been 20 seconds later, the children would have drowned. When they reached the shore, they still couldn't believe they had been saved," Ms. Trang shared.
On March 4, at the home of Ms. Nguyen Thi Trang in Nguyen Van Troi area (Nam Sach town, Nam Sach district, Hai Duong province), representatives of Nam Sach town leaders praised and commended Ms. Trang's brave action in saving 3 children who fell into the lake.
Previously, at around 5pm on February 1 (the 4th day of Tet), a group of students in Nam Sach town (Nam Sach district, Hai Duong province) went out to play in the urban area west of Nam Sach town. Unfortunately, 1 female student and 2 male students fell into the lake.
At that time, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Trang was walking when she discovered that her children were showing signs of drowning. Immediately, Mrs. Trang crossed the railing and jumped into the lake to save them. Her husband and Mr. Nguyen Tri Dung (born in 1970 in La Van Cau area, Nam Sach town, Hai Duong province) together brought the three children to shore safely.
