Prestigious people contribute to changing the way of life in the village
Lien Son Lak commune is still in a difficult group of areas. People's lives mainly depend on agriculture, so their income is still low, and production practices in many places are still outdated.
The whole commune has 6,663 households with 26,663 people. Of which, ethnic minorities account for 72.6%. Many old customs and habits still exist, more or less hindering the socio-economic development process.
In that context, prestigious people in the village have become an important support.
Currently, the whole commune has 23 village elders, retired party members and prestigious people in 31 villages and hamlets. They are all elderly people, knowledgeable about customs and trusted by the people, so every advice and adulation has a strong influence.

Mr. Y To Hezok is one of such people. For many years, he has always struggled with the desire to help people change their old lifestyle, towards a more civilized and modern life.
He shared that it is impossible to let the village forever maintain outdated habits, especially the situation of young people abusing alcohol and lacking the will to advance. Therefore, whenever he has free time, he goes to each house, meets each person to remind, analyze the right and wrong, and make the damage better.
Accordingly, he has persistently encouraged young people to limit alcohol, work hard in production, and learn new techniques to increase their income. For children, he always advises them to study well. Study to escape poverty, study for a future.
For students who have reached adulthood, he encouraged them to perform military service, considering this a good training environment for maturity. According to him, the most important thing is to instil in them a sense of responsibility towards their family, community and hometown.

In conversations with young families, he always starts with simple advice: To escape poverty, first of all, families must love each other, eliminate bad customs, and preserve cultural order. Children of school age must complete grade 12, then learn a trade, study at university or join the army to grow up.
Those rustic but sincere advice have gradually penetrated into village life. Thanks to the exemplary and persistent efforts of the village elders and prestigious people, the appearance of Lien Son commune (Lak) is changing day by day.
Security and order are maintained, people's lives are increasingly prosperous. Many solid houses have sprung up, roads are clean, and motorbikes are appearing more and more. When people feel secure in doing business and pay more attention to their children's education, their material and spiritual life will be improved. From being afraid of change, people have now proactively accepted new things, towards a more civilized and progressive lifestyle.

Helping sustainable poverty reduction
According to statistics from the People's Committee of Lien Son Lak commune, the whole commune currently has dozens of prestigious people working in villages, hamlets of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas.
In recent years, this force has made an important contribution to the implementation of the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the period 2021-2025.
Thanks to their participation, many major policies have been clearly understood, agreed upon and actively implemented by the people. People boldly abandon bad customs, apply science and technology to production, thereby increasing income and improving spiritual life.

Mr. Y Tho Mlo - Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Social Affairs of Lien Son Lak commune affirmed: "Preditable people play a particularly important role in local socio-economic development.
They are people trusted by the people, their words have weight, so the government can help them spread policies and guidelines to ethnic minorities effectively".
According to Mr. Y Tho, in the context of the government apparatus being organized in a streamlined and efficient manner, the role of prestigious people becomes even more prominent.

They understand the language, life, difficulties and customs of their compatriots, so messages about developing production, maintaining security and order or building a civilized lifestyle are always conveyed to the people in a familiar and easy-to-receive way.
The local government expects the village elders and prestigious people to continue to promote their sense of responsibility, experience and understanding of their customs and practices.
They will continue to accompany localities in sustainable poverty reduction, new rural construction and promoting the development of ethnic minority areas in the coming period - in line with the major orientation that the Central Government is focusing on implementing.
