On December 13, on the fourth day of competition at the 33rd SEA Games, taekwondo continued to bring more "gold" to the Vietnamese sports delegation. Boxer Tran Thi Anh Tuyet excellently won the gold medal in the women's 57kg weight class after a tense final match with the host athlete Thailand.
In an interview after winning the gold medal, Anh Tuyet expressed her feelings: "I am very happy. I had a knee injury at the previous SEA Games so I couldn't keep the gold medal, this time I came back and won gold. Even though I am in another weight class, I am still very happy and proud".
Anh Tuyet also shared more plans for the future, especially saying goodbye to the Vietnam national team and switching to coaching. She said: "This medal is meaningful because this could be the last SEA Games I will participate in. After this SEA Games, I may not focus on the women's team. I plan to return to my locality to compete in the 2026 National Sports Festival. Then I may switch to coaching."
Under great pressure from Thai spectators in the 33rd SEA Games final, Anh Tuyet competed calmly and bravely. She continuously launched accurate attacks, leading 7-2 in the first half. In the second half, the Thai fighter started well, taking a 5-0 lead. However, Anh Tuyet was still calm in counter-attacking, leveling the score at 9-9 and taking a 12-10 lead. When she was close to touching the gold medal, she let her opponent score and ended the second half with a score of 1-1.
Entering the decisive round, Anh Tuyet maximized her technique and endurance, continuously scoring to win 4-0, thereby winning the final match 2-1. This victory brought the 28th gold medal for the Vietnamese team at the 2025 SEA Games, following the impressive achievements of martial arts in the competition day on December 13.
