On December 19, information from the Management Board of Pu Mat National Park (Con Cuong district, Nghe An province) said that after a period of taking samples for testing, the authorities determined that the cause of the unusual deaths of 29 wild boars was African swine fever.
To prevent the spread of disease, the Pu Mat National Park Management Board has buried and destroyed dead wild boars to prevent the spread of pathogens within the species.
Previously, during a patrol, the authorities of Pu Mat National Park discovered 29 wild boars dying abnormally, concentrated in the forest areas managed by Khe Choang Station in Chau Khe Commune, Con Cuong District, along with Khe Thoi, Tam Dinh and Tam Hop stations in Tam Quang Commune, Tuong Duong District.
The dead wild boars were mainly found along streams and showed no signs of being affected by illegal hunting; each boar weighed about 20-30kg and some were beginning to decompose.
