On the afternoon of May 16, the Nha Trang Bay Management Board just announced the temporary zoning to protect the coral reef.
According to the announcement of the Nha Trang Bay Management Board, the El Nino phenomenon in 2026 is forecast to strongly impact the Central region, increasing prolonged heat and sea temperatures. This is one of the main reasons leading to coral bleaching.
To minimize the impacts on the coral reef ecosystem in Nha Trang Bay, the Nha Trang Bay Management Board will implement temporary protection zoning in the Hon Chong - Dang Tat sea area from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on low tide days, focusing on the middle and end of the lunar month. The application period is from May to the end of August 2026.
Nha Trang Bay Management Board calls on people and tourists to raise awareness of protecting the marine environment, limiting activities that may affect coral reefs during the protection zone.
Previously, on May 13, the Conservation Department under the Nha Trang Bay Management Board organized a field survey at Hon Mun Marine Conservation Area - considered the area with the most diverse coral ecosystem in Khanh Hoa province.
Survey results show that the coral ecosystem here is recovering positively after nearly 4 years since many coral reefs were broken due to the impact of natural disasters and humans.
Through diving survey activities, functional forces recorded the reappearance of many fish species and diverse coral ecosystems in coastal areas.
From the end of June 2022, local authorities have implemented a series of solutions to restore the marine ecosystem such as temporarily suspending swimming, diving, and sightseeing by glass-bottom boats in the Hon Mun area; limiting the number of diving visitors and relocating aquaculture activities that affect the conservation area.
In November 2022, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee issued the Overall Plan for restoring Nha Trang Bay to 2030 with many synchronous conservation solutions.
According to the Nha Trang Bay Management Board, after nearly 4 years of implementing conservation measures, the rate of living corals, density of distribution and area of coral reefs in the Hon Mun, Hon Chong - Dang Tat areas all tend to increase.
The recovery of the coral ecosystem is assessed as the result of the efforts of local authorities and the companionship of people, tourists and conservation organizations in protecting the marine environment of Nha Trang Bay.
