Mr. Nguyen Trong Dong - Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee - signed and issued Document No. 4071/UBND-NNMT, mobilizing agencies, businesses, hotels, restaurants, schools and households to open toilets for free to serve tourists on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2. This policy quickly received a positive response from the people of the capital.
According to information from the Hanoi People's Committee, the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2 is expected to take place with the participation of about 30,000 delegates and people. In addition, Hanoi will also welcome millions of domestic and foreign tourists to visit, travel and participate in important cultural and political activities.
However, in the context of a sudden increase in the number of customers, the current public toilet system (VSCC) of the city has not met the demand. Statistics show that the whole city currently has only 351 VSCC houses, including 176 brick houses, 91 steel structure houses (inox) and 84 VSCC houses installed by Vinasing Company.

A representative of Hanoi Urban Environment Company Limited (URENCO) said that during the holiday, the unit plans to install 612 more mobile VSCC houses in densely populated areas and tourists. However, this figure is still considered not enough to relieve the pressure of using toilets.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Le (residing in Saigon ward, Ho Chi Minh City) shared: "Every year, my family travels to Hanoi 1-2 times. But like many other big cities, Hanoi lacks public toilets. When children need to go to the toilet, I often have to take them to coffee shops and force them to order drinks to wait, which is very inconvenient. If shared and supported by the people, the trip would be much smoother.
At the Trade Union Hotel (14 Tran Binh Trong), Mr. Ngo Dai Dong - Chairman of the Board of Members - said: "Up to now, the hotel has always been ready to open to people to use the toilet for free in the protection area and the first floor. The city's mobilization is correct, both demonstrating the spirit of mutual love and contributing to preserving a civilized and clean urban environment".
As a resident of the old town, Ms. Bui Huong Thang (No. 2 Hang Ga) also agreed: "On major holidays like National Day, the number of people flocking to the capital is very large. Hanoi people can completely support tourists not only by using toilets, but also by drinking water and temporary accommodation when tired.
Ms. Thanh Van (living at 13 Cao Ba Quat) shared: My family is always ready to help tourists, not just during holidays. However, it is also necessary to be aware of maintaining general hygiene. The government should encourage the installation of signs stating ' Free Restroom', especially in English to make it easy for international tourists to recognize.
However, there are still certain difficulties in implementation. Mr. Tuong Anh (Chau Long Street) said: "The old town area has many small houses, some places even share public toilets and each household holds a key. Therefore, it is advisable to prioritize mobilizing restaurants, hotels, and agencies with large sums of money to support tourists to make it more convenient.
Chairman of Dong Da Ward People's Committee - Mr. Le Tuan Dinh - said that the locality has mobilized 100% of businesses on Nguyen Van Tuyet food street to sign a commitment to allow people and tourists to use toilets when participating in the service experience.
In addition, the socialization model " Free Restroom" is also being piloted on many crowded streets such as Truc Bach, Hang Than and Ngu Xa food - walking street.
