Due to heavy rain lasting from the afternoon to the evening of August 27, water flooded many areas in Ham Thuan Nam district, Binh Thuan.
Recorded by reporters on the morning of August 28, in Ham My commune, the residential area along DT 719B road had high water levels, some houses were half flooded. Many dragon fruit gardens here are flooded with only the tops visible.
People here wade in chest-high water to move valuables out of their homes. Ham My commune forces came to help people get the elderly out of the flooded area and relocate their belongings.
In Ham Kiem commune, group 7 of Dan Phu village near the river was flooded with many dragon fruit gardens. An iron bridge (people call it Tu My bridge) across the river was flooded, making it impossible for households to travel back and forth. The water flooded just half a meter from the top of the electric pole.
Mr. Sang, a resident living on the other side of this bridge, said that the water was flooded and he could not see the way. If he walked, he could easily fall into the river and this was also the only road for traffic, so he had to cross the forest road very far to get to work.
In Tan Lap commune, fast-flowing water swept away people's motorbikes on the afternoon of August 27. On the morning of August 28, many people went down to search for the motorbike and brought it to shore.
Sharing with reporters, people in flooded areas are very worried if heavy rain continues.
Currently, local authorities still do not have statistics on the number and area of damage. Rescue work and moving people out of flooded areas have been carried out by the competent forces.
