Along with thousands of veterans returning to the capital to attend activities of the National Day on September 2 (A80), veteran Phan Ba Nong (85 years old, from Can Loc, Ha Tinh), who was a tank driver - self-propelled artillery, Third Class disabled soldier with a disability of 44%, but his health and intelligence are still very bright. He said that after a day of walking around neighborhoods and relics in Hanoi, he saw Hanoi developing and growing stronger than any country in the world.

Veteran Phan Ba Nong could not hide his emotions and shared that on the evening of August 30, he went to Hang Co Station (Hanoi Station), after many years of returning to the capital, he did not know what he would eat and stay. After a short walk to Cua Nam street, a person asked about it and called a friend named Kien to pick him up and arrange a clean place to live, which moved him a lot.
Sharing with Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, Mr. Phan Ba Nong enthusiastically told about his glorious feats in his youth. In 1972, when he was only 20 years old, he volunteered to join the army, then was assigned to drive a tank - self-propelled artillery car of the 297th tank Battalion, Central Highlands Front. In a fierce battle in Dak To - Tan Canh, Company 53 had three ships participating in the fight, bravely firing back fiercely at enemy aircraft. His tank was hit by bullets, his comrade died, and he was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital by his comrades for treatment.
Because he could not return to the unit in time, people thought he had sacrificed. The family even held a memorial service, but he was lucky to survive and return to the unit afterwards...

He shared: "Coming to Hanoi this time to watch parades, parades and events at A80, I feel like I am reliving old memories, meeting my teammates again, it is very touching. I am very excited and proud to be in Hanoi to attend events at the A80 Festival.
After many years of returning, I see Hanoi changing so much, it is unimaginable. This affirms that the country is changing and developing like a storm".
"Along with that, people, especially the younger generation, always have love and support for each other, especially in difficult and arduous times," said Mr. Nong.

According to Mr. Nong, in addition to the strong development of the country, today's army is also more disciplined, modern and stronger. In particular, the younger generation is increasingly talented, intellectual and healthy enough to protect the Fatherland, not inferior to any country.
