Ninh Binh - Slow water receding caused many schools in Ninh Binh to not be able to welcome students back, and teaching and learning continued to face difficulties.

On September 20, reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper recorded that many schools in Ninh Binh province were still flooded after prolonged heavy rain. Some schools continue to let students take leave from school or switch to online classes.

Heavy rain has caused flooding at 10 schools in Ninh Binh province. Some schools have been flooded since September 15 and have not yet receded completely, causing thousands of students to be unable to return to class.

At branch 2 of Gia Vien Primary School (Kenh Ga village, Gia Vien commune), water has receded from classrooms and functional rooms, but the schoolyard and school gate are still deeply flooded. More than 250 students here cannot go to school yet.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha - Principal of Gia Vien Primary School - said that as soon as the water receded, the school mobilized officials, teachers and parents to clean up mud, sanitize classrooms, and rearrange tables, chairs, and school supplies.

Currently, classrooms and functional rooms have been cleaned up. However, the schoolyard and gate area are still flooded, so students continue to study online" - Ms. Ha said.

Also according to Ms. Ha, the school has arranged 10 teachers to teach online for students at this school point. Every day, students still study full periods, 2 sessions/day according to the plan. Teachers send classroom guides to the principal so that the school can attend classes, check the organization of teaching as well as the number of students participating.

The rate of students participating in online learning reaches about 70%. The rest are mainly due to parents working far away, students living with grandparents or lack of learning equipment. When returning to school, the school will organize make-up classes to consolidate knowledge" - Ms. Ha said.

In Tay Hoa Lu ward, 3 school sites are still affected by flooding. On September 20, PV's records showed that the schoolyard area and toilets at Branch 2 of Trang An Secondary School and Trang An Elementary School are still flooded.

Some schools in Thanh Lam and Tan Thanh communes were also affected by floodwaters. At Hoang Dong Primary School 1 (Duy Ha ward), the water has receded and students have returned to normal schooling.

In areas where the water has receded, schools are urgently cleaning the environment, disinfecting, and ensuring safety before welcoming students back.

Ninh Binh Education sector requests schools to base on the actual situation to develop plans to make up for and consolidate knowledge for students after the interruption period.

According to a quick report from the Office of the Ninh Binh Provincial Civil Defense Command, as of September 20, 3/10 flooded school sites have completed cleaning and are ready to welcome students back to school on September 21, currently there are still 7 flooded school sites, students have to take leave from school or switch to online classes.
