On the morning of September 29, at the river wharf in Zone 5, Huong Non Commune, Tam Nong District (the opposite wharf is Phung Nguyen Commune, Lam Thao District), the 249th Engineering Brigade (Engineering Corps) officially installed the Phong Chau pontoon bridge.
Here, the Red River is nearly 190m wide, over 20m deep, and has a flow velocity of about 1.1m/s... Officers and soldiers of the 249th Engineering Brigade have been connecting the sections of the pontoon bridge.
Previously, on the afternoon of September 28, more than 20 pontoon bridge segments were launched and gathered on the riverbank to prepare for construction and connection this morning.
After completing the installation of the pontoon bridge, technical traffic will be opened, inspected, calibrated, and all stages will be completed so that on September 30 (expected), traffic will begin to open, ensuring smooth traffic, meeting the travel needs of the people.
After the bridge is opened to traffic, the bridge is guaranteed to be open from 6am to 10pm every day. For people and road vehicles entering and exiting the pontoon bridge, rudimentary vehicles, motorbikes, motorbikes, and 3-wheeled motorbikes are allowed to travel in 2 directions, with a speed of ≤ 5km/h; for cars, only cars and pickup trucks (from 2 to 4 seats) are allowed to travel in 1 direction when crossing the bridge, with a travel time of 10 minutes each way, a distance between vehicles of ≤ 30m, and a speed of ≤ 10km/h...
Previously, after many days of construction and reinforcement, the two river wharves were more spacious and sturdy with layers of concrete and solid stone gabions.
After the pontoon bridge was installed and opened to traffic, people on both sides of the river could travel conveniently, no longer having to go around Ngoc Thap bridge (Phu Tho town), a distance of about 15km, which was very difficult since Phong Chau bridge collapsed.
