According to Lao Dong Newspaper, by noon on October 30, the rain in Quang Binh province had gradually stopped, the flood water had gradually receded, but thousands of houses were still submerged. Many families had set up temporary huts next to National Highway 1 to avoid the flood.
The house of Mr. Nguyen Van Nam (53 years old, in An Dinh village, Hong Thuy commune) is still flooded nearly 1 meter deep. The water is still high so his family has to live in a temporary hut next to National Highway 1 to wait for the water to recede.
Mr. Nam said his family lives near National Highway 1 but is low, on October 28, flood water flooded into the house up to 2m.
With no shelter, the family of five had to go to a piece of land near the National Highway to build a temporary hut to live in.
In the same situation, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hieu (47 years old, Hong Thuy commune) moved her children and pets to National Highway 1 to stay temporarily.
“On the evening of October 28, the flood rose quickly and there was no place to take shelter. My husband worked far away so we had to set up a temporary hut on Highway 1 to wait for the water to recede,” said Ms. Hieu.
Mr. Pham Minh Huan - Chairman of Hong Thuy Commune said that the locality has many households living along both sides of National Highway 1. The terrain here is low-lying, the fields are flooded quite deeply. Some households without shelter often move their assets and livestock to higher ground next to National Highway 1, build temporary huts to live in, and return home when the water recedes.
"By this afternoon, October 30, we have sent people to take these households back home to clean up and return to normal life," said Mr. Huan.
