On the morning of October 30, the rain in Quang Binh province has stopped, the water level in the rivers has receded, and the flood center in Le Thuy and Quang Ninh districts has gradually decreased.
It has been nearly 3 days, but the people of Chuon mountain village (Kim Thuy commune, Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province) are still shocked when recalling the terrifying flash flood that forced people to abandon their belongings and flee for their lives.
Recalling that moment between life and death, Mr. Do Huu Doan (Chuon village) stammered, at about 2 pm on October 27, water poured in from upstream. But just 30 minutes later, the water submerged dozens of households in the village. Everyone abandoned their belongings and ran for their lives, no one could clean up anything.
Mrs. Bui Thi Nu is still stunned when recalling the moment the whole family ran to find shelter: "It was really terrifying, I didn't think the water would come so quickly, if we hadn't run in time, everyone would not have survived."
Her family has 800 red-fleshed dragon fruit trees. After just 1 hour of flood, the dragon fruit trees were devastated. When she fled the flood, everything in the house was intact, but when she returned, everything was in disarray.
Valuable items are used, and worthless items are discarded.
Mr. Hoang Van Linh - Chairman of Kim Thuy Commune People's Committee - said that the flood caused 180 households in the area to be severely inundated.
“The floodwaters came so quickly that people were unable to react in time, and almost all of the households’ properties were damaged. It has been a long time since there was a flood like this in the area,” said Mr. Linh.
Vice Chairman of Le Thuy District People's Committee Le Van Son said that the water level in the district has gradually receded. The local government is focusing on providing drinking water and food to households in low-lying areas that are still flooded. At the same time, the local government is allocating forces to support people to overcome the damage after the flood in both mountainous and plain areas.
