According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from 7:00 p.m. on November 19 to 3:00 a.m. on November 20, heavy rain continuously occurred in the area from Gia Lai to Khanh Hoa. Many places recorded "record overnight" rainfall, such as Ho Hoa Son station (Khanh Hoa) reached 324.2mm; Hoa Hiep Trung station (Dak Lak) 184.8mm; Ho Da Den station (Khanh Hoa) 168.4mm.
A series of other rivers in the Central region also exceeded alert level 3 due to heavy rain lasting overnight.
Many rivers exceed historical levels
At 1:00 a.m. on November 20, the flood on the Ba River at Cung Son station reached 6.49 m - exceeding alert level 3 and 1.09 m above the historical flood peak in 1993. At Phu Lam station, the water level exceeded the historical flood in 1993 by about 0.15m.
On Dinh Ninh Hoa River (Khanh Hoa), the water level exceeding alert level 3 is 0.92m, about 0.04m higher than the historical flood level in 1986 .
It is forecasted that on the morning of November 20, the flood peak on the Ba River will continue to remain higher than BD3 and then slowly decrease in the evening. Floods on Kon, Krong Ana, Thu Bon rivers will fluctuate around level 1 - level 3, some rivers in Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa are likely to exceed alert level 3.
The meteorological agency noted that the forecasts are calculated based on the discharge flow of upstream reservoirs and will be updated when there are changes in regulating operations.
The Central region experiences a severe storm season
The Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting continues to warn of level 4 natural disaster risks in the old Phu Yen province; level 3 for Gia Lai and Khanh Hoa; localities from Hue to Quang Ngai are at level 1 - 2 risk level.
The Central region is assessed to be experiencing an unusual flood season, lasting over a wide area. The flood from October 22 to early November will be concentrated in Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang and eastern Quang Ngai. From November 16 to now, the focus of rain will shift to the old Binh Dinh - Khanh Hoa area.
Even the old Ninh Thuan - the driest locality in the country - recorded heavy rain and widespread flooding.
Previously, on the night of November 6, Binh Dinh and the old Phu Yen also suffered from strong storm Kalmaegi, causing winds of level 10, gusting to level 1314 on land.
