Ho Chi Minh City - Nga 6 Cong Truong Dan Chu is proposed to build a steel overpass in the direction of Vo Thi Sau - 3 Thang 2 street with a total investment of more than 328 billion VND.

On July 24, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board said that it had sent a report to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee proposing to adjust the investment policy for the steel overpass construction project at Nga 6 Cong Truong Dan Chu.

Previously, the project was approved for investment policy by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council from 2016 with a total investment of more than 281 billion VND. However, the project has not yet been implemented.

According to the new proposal, the total investment of the project is adjusted to more than 328 billion VND. The overpass will be built in the direction of Vo Thi Sau street - 3 Thang 2 street, while the traffic section under the bridge is organized by self-adjusted roundabouts or traffic light systems.

Compared to the previous plan, the project scale has been adjusted. The overpass is about 260 m long (instead of 268.2 m), 8 m wide (increased from 6.5 m), meeting the bus load.

The adjustment is to synchronize with the Dan Chu station planning of Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong), and at the same time update the bridge width according to the calculations of the consulting unit based on traffic flow forecasts until 2040.

According to the plan, the project will be started and completed in 2028. In 2029, the project will be accepted, put into operation and finalized.

Nga 6 Cong Truong Dan Chu is the intersection of six major roads including: Vo Thi Sau, 3 Thang 2, Cach Mang Thang 8, Ly Chinh Thang, Nguyen Phuc Nguyen and Nguyen Thuong Hien.

This is one of the intersections with the largest traffic volume in the central area, especially on the Vo Thi Sau - 3 Thang 2 road and Cach Mang Thang 8 road. During peak hours, this area often experiences prolonged congestion, affecting many adjacent roads.

According to the Project Management Board, building overpasses combined with reorganizing traffic at intersections will contribute to increasing traffic flow capacity, reducing conflicts between traffic flows and limiting prolonged congestion.

Not only Nga 6 Cong Truong Dan Chu, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has also assigned the Department of Construction to prepare a report proposing investment policies for six other steel overpasses to reduce traffic pressure at hotspots.

In which, the central area is expected to build two overpasses on 3 Thang 2 street, at the Le Dai Hanh and Ly Thuong Kiet intersections.

In the Binh Duong area (old), the city proposed building an overpass at the Cach Mang Thang Tam - Huynh Van Cu intersection.

The remaining three overpasses are planned in the area of Ba Ria - Vung Tau (old), including intersections of National Highway 51 - Phuoc Binh, National Highway 51 - road B1 to My Xuan B1 Industrial Park and DT. 994C - road 30/4 (AO Ong Tu area).
