On August 8, in an interview with Lao Động, a representative of the leadership of Mường Lát District People's Committee, Thanh Hóa Province, stated that as of the current time, the Bạch Hầu Outbreak at Đoàn Kết Ward, Mường Lát Town, Mường Lát District has been brought under control.
Earlier, on the evening of August 5, the district reported the first case of a patient testing positive for Bạch Hầu. The patient was a pregnant woman, P.L.M. (17 years old, residing at Đoàn Kết Ward, Mường Lát Town).
Immediately after, the patient was transferred to Thanh Hóa Province General Hospital, and then further transferred to the Central Tuberculosis Hospital.
Regarding the outbreak at Đoàn Kết Ward, competent authorities have conducted a review, compiled a list of 23 individuals who had close contact with the patient, including 7 cases who are currently being isolated and treated at Mường Lát District General Hospital, and 16 other cases who are being isolated at home and closely monitored for their health and medical care.
Specialized agencies have also collected and sent 5 samples for testing from individuals who had close contact with the patient and exhibited symptoms such as tonsillitis and sore throat, to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for testing.
The task force from the Thanh Hóa Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention has collaborated with the Mường Lát District authorities to effectively conduct surveillance, investigate the outbreak; diagnose and promptly identify suspected cases, investigate and collect specimen samples… In addition, they have promptly implemented measures to cordon off and control the disease.
The Thanh Hóa Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention has also assigned staff to conduct on-site guidance, dissemination, and coordination with the local healthcare system to implement measures to cordon off and control the disease according to the "4 on-site" principle.
As of the current time, the outbreak has been brought under control. Specifically, the health of the pregnant woman, P.L.M., has stabilized.
