Recorded in the afternoon of September 2nd, the Cat Lai ferry area, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai, had a high increase in the number of vehicles. From about 2 pm, the flow of vehicles pouring into the ferry terminal became increasingly crowded, of which cars accounted for a large number. Vehicles lined up, queuing in long lines waiting for their turn to cross the ferry.
On Ly Thai To street (Dai Phuoc commune, Dong Nai city) towards Cat Lai ferry terminal, congestion occurred in the car lane, sometimes lasting nearly 2km. Many people had to wait in the sun.
According to some people, due to concerns about congestion often occurring in the late afternoons of holidays, many families proactively returned to Ho Chi Minh City earlier. However, the rapid increase in vehicles caused the ferry terminal area to still be crowded from the beginning of the afternoon.
Mr. Tuan Kiet (resident of Dong Hung Thuan ward, Ho Chi Minh City) said that his family proactively returned early to avoid congestion in the late afternoon. However, when arriving at the ferry area before 3 pm, the number of vehicles was already very large and his family had to wait more than 30 minutes for their turn to board the ferry.
Mr. Nguyen Chien Thang - Director of the Youth Volunteer Ferry Management Enterprise, the unit directly managing and operating Cat Lai and Binh Khanh ferry terminals - said that on normal days, Cat Lai ferry serves about 36,000 passengers, including about 1,500 cars. During the National Day holiday, the number of passengers through the ferry increased to an average of about 48,000 passengers/day, including about 2,200 cars.
To meet the increasing travel demand, the operating unit operates 7 ferries with a tonnage of 60-200 tons, carrying out about 240 double trips/day.
At Binh Khanh ferry terminal, the route connecting Can Gio with the central area of Ho Chi Minh City, the number of passengers during the holidays averages about 33,000 passengers/day, including about 4,000 cars. The ferry terminal is operating 8 ferries with a tonnage of 60-200 tons, with about 220 double trips/day.
Regarding roads, in the afternoon of September 2nd, the eastern gateway area of Ho Chi Minh City was basically clear, without prolonged congestion. The areas of An Phu, My Thuy intersection, Ring Road 2 and Vo Chi Cong, Dong Van Cong, Luong Dinh Cua, Nguyen Duy Trinh, Mai Chi Tho, Nguyen Thi Dinh... all recorded stable traffic flow.
Notably, in the afternoon of September 2nd, the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway still organized two-way traffic. The traffic police force proactively closed and opened entrances and exits to the expressway connecting National Highway 1 and National Highway 51, helping to regulate traffic flow and keep the direction of vehicles to Ho Chi Minh City clear.
Recorded on the route, vehicles moved conveniently, and prolonged congestion did not occur. Proactive regulation at connecting nodes is maintained to limit traffic pressure when the number of vehicles from the southeastern provinces and cities returning to Ho Chi Minh City increased sharply on the last day of the holiday.
