The event was held at 7:00 a.m. on March 8, at the gate of Thong Nhat Park - Walking Space on Tran Nhan Tong Street, Hanoi, to spread the message to the community to raise awareness of the effective use of resources, protect the environment, and proactively prevent climate change.
The activity attracted more than 1,000 participants. Online running activities are widely organized nationwide through the 84RACE platform.
After the launching ceremony, the event series was deployed with the message "Green Transition - Green Future" to call on all people to respond to energy saving through specific activities, not only turning off electricity and unnecessary electrical equipment at earth time every year, but many other activities, throughout, continuously in economic activities, life and beyond, become a series of "green transition" activities towards a greener, more sustainable "green future".
In 2025, with the message "Green transition - Green future", the Ministry of Industry and Trade hopes to launch a movement with stronger influence in the community, not simply calling on the entire population to save electricity, but more widely and higher, including sustainable energy production activities, increasing the use of renewable energy sources, using products and equipment with high energy efficiency to improve energy efficiency in both economic and environmental aspects."
Implementing Decision No. 280/QD-TTg dated March 13, 2019 of the Prime Minister on Approving the National Program on Energy Saving and Efficient Use for the period 2019 - 2030; Directive No. 20/CT-TTg dated June 8, 2023 on increasing electricity savings for the period 2023 - 2025 and the following years, in recent years, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has implemented many propaganda activities to raise public awareness of climate change and energy saving for sustainable development. The most prominent of which is the Earth Hour response activities that have been held for the past 15 years and have become an annual event, with the participation of authorities and communities across the country.
After the COP26 Conference on Climate Change, Vietnam has urgently concretized and immediately started implementing its commitments to the international community to aim for the goal of net greenhouse gas emissions of 0 by 2050. Green shift, first of all, energy shift on both the supply side (such as strong development of non-fessional energy sources) and the demand side (such as energy-saving and efficient use) are leading solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to the fastest implementation of the goal of neutralizing carbon. In recent years, the Earth Hour event in Vietnam chaired by the Ministry of Industry and Trade has contributed to creating positive changes in the community about climate change awareness as well as specific actions of people across the country on energy saving.
