On December 5, information from the People's Procuracy of Thanh Hoa province said that the People's Procuracy of Region 12 - Thanh Hoa has conducted an inspection and examination of the scene of the deforestation case that occurred at Pu Luong Nature Reserve.

Previously, on November 29, the People's Procuracy of Region 12 - Thanh Hoa received a report from the Pu Luong Special Forest Protection Department about an incident with signs of the crime of "Violating regulations on exploitation and protection of forests and forest products".
Immediately afterwards, the unit assigned an enforcement officer to coordinate with a working group to examine the scene in the natural special-use forest area of Pu Luong Nature Reserve (Khuyn village, Co Lung commune, Thanh Hoa province).
Through inspection, the working group determined that there were a number of forest trees that were cut down, including 1 banyan tree (belonging to the list of rare and endangered forest plants of Group IIA), 2 re trees (belonging to the list of rare forest plants of Group IV), with an estimated volume of more than 5.1m3 of wood.
To serve the assessment, the working group collected samples and sent them to the authorities to determine the volume and types of illegally exploited trees.
The case is currently being further verified and clarified.
