Not developing scattered, small-scale
In July 2026, the Department of Construction of Gia Lai province is seeking opinions from localities on the plan to re-plan Pleiku urban area in the direction of expansion.
Gia Lai province's goal is to continue to develop this mountain town into a growth pole of the province and the North Central Highlands region, commensurate with its potential and strengths.
Mr. Pham Anh Tuan - Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requested wards and communes in the Pleiku area to identify this as a unified socio-economic development space, with organic links, complementing each other.
At the same time, resolutely eliminate the localized thinking of administrative boundaries, and prevent fragmented, spontaneous development and lack of infrastructure connection.

The provincial government assesses that some communes and wards in Pleiku urban area are implementing the province's major policies and orientations still slowly. In which, the progress of key projects has not met requirements, and compensation and site clearance work is still facing many difficulties.
The exploitation of land funds and the creation of budget revenue have not met expectations; investment promotion and attraction have not had many clear changes.
In particular, the linkage and coordination between wards and communes in organizing development space and implementing inter-regional tasks is still not close, and has not created a comprehensive strength to promote development.
The new Pleiku city will create momentum for the whole region
Therefore, the functional sector of Gia Lai province is urgently completing the Pleiku urban re-planning project in the direction of expansion.
In which, shaping a modern, civilized, livable mountain town, associated with key strengths in commerce, services, tourism and resorts.
The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Construction to propose procedures for selecting and hiring reputable foreign consulting units to participate in planning. Communes and wards continue to proactively conduct in-depth research and contribute specific feedback to ensure optimal quality planning projects.
In the last 6 months of the year, localities focused on implementing projects with spillover effects such as: CK54 urban area; Hotel, Pleiku ward complex shopping center; 15-17 Truong Chinh street commercial, service and housing complex; Hoang Anh Gia Lai high-rise apartment complex.
To make the new Pleiku urban appearance dynamic and modern, it is necessary to complete the adjustment of the detailed planning of Suoi Hoi Phu Urban Area phase 3; promote nighttime economic activities, cultural and artistic activities in the space along the stream in the middle of the mountain town.
