At the time of inspection on the morning of September 11, the rain had lessened, the hydroelectric reservoir was operating stably, and the water flow into the lake was at more than 3,100 m3/second.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long requested Thac Ba Hydropower Joint Stock Company to continue to strictly implement the Prime Minister's instructions, especially noting that in all situations, the highest priority is always the health and lives of the people.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) Nguyen Hoang Hiep said that, up to this point, Thac Ba hydroelectric reservoir is safe.
"However, there is still much work to be done, but with the water flow and discharge, we confirm that Thac Ba Hydropower Plant is safe. It will take about 1-2 more days for the lake to return to the allowable water level and people in the area must still stay in shelters to prevent any unexpected events that may occur," said Mr. Hiep.
According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, currently, the functional forces have calculated all plans and proactively prepared forces to respond with the spirit of minimizing damage, in which, people's lives are paramount.
In the morning of the same day, speaking with PV Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Deputy General Director of Thac Ba Hydropower Company, affirmed: "The signal is very positive, the water level in Thac Ba Lake is expected to not increase further. Up to this point, the hydropower reservoir has opened 3 floodgates. The project is still safe, no problem."
At 1:00 p.m. on September 11, the water flow into Thac Ba Lake reached 2,992 m3/s, the discharge flow was 3,005 m3/s, the hydroelectric reservoir was safe.
Thac Ba Hydropower Plant is still releasing water at maximum 3 gates, the water flow has decreased rapidly compared to yesterday (to 3,100 m3/s, equal to the amount of water released).
Previously, Yen Bai province organized the evacuation of 3,186 households with 11,279 people from 24 villages and hamlets in Vinh Kien, Yen Binh, Han Da, Dai Minh communes, and Thac Ba town (Yen Binh district) to ensure people's safety when Thac Ba Hydropower Plant discharged floodwaters.
