Towards a sustainable future
Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park (Quang Binh Province) is in the process of moving towards the Green List standard of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This helps protect the natural heritage towards a sustainable future.
Mr. Pham Hong Thai - Director of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park Management Board said that the Green List is a set of global standards for successful conservation of protected and conserved areas, providing a measure of success in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. Therefore, the benefits for Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park when achieving Green List certification are enormous and extremely important.
According to Mr. Thai, to preserve the park, the National Park Management Board has focused on synchronously implementing tasks and solutions and has achieved important results.
The National Park has successfully applied Smart technology in forest patrols, automatic camera trap technology in biodiversity monitoring and has organized 47,470 patrols, forest protection and biodiversity monitoring with more than 74,800 days and nights in the forest on a patrol distance of up to 268,500km.
Thanks to the application of science and technology, forest resources in the National Park are well protected and restored, forest cover is always over 95%, and threats to forest resources are pushed back.
Along with that, the situation of people encroaching into the forest has decreased sharply, cases of violating forestry laws have decreased sharply in quantity, scale and nature over the years; especially, there have been no hot spots of forest exploitation and no serious forest fires have occurred.
Mr. Thai informed that, up to now, the application stage has been carried out by the National Park Management Board. It is expected that in 2025, the National Park's Green List dossier will be approved and certified by the IUCN Green List Committee.
