On December 10, the Standing Committee of Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee held a conference to review 2 years of implementing Resolution 31 on strengthening leadership and direction to ensure security and order in Phu Quoc City.
Accordingly, after 2 years of implementing the resolution, the political security situation in the city has been maintained and stabilized; focusing on resolving many conflicts, disputes, land encroachment and occupation cases, associated with handling violations.
The authorities have detected, arrested, and handled 681 cases, 1,569 criminals and violators of various types of laws (495 cases, 733 subjects were prosecuted; 412 subjects were administratively punished, and 376 subjects were sent to compulsory drug rehabilitation).
The authorities have eliminated and disbanded 8 criminal gangs and groups, arrested and prosecuted 169 members of the gangs and groups and related subjects.
Regarding corruption crimes, the authorities prosecuted 3 cases, 9 subjects, recovered assets worth 10 billion VND; 18 cases, 25 subjects committed economic crimes; administratively handled 60 cases, 65 subjects; handled 87 cases, 100 subjects violating environmental laws. The number of drug addicts and illegal users decreased by more than 90% and were all strictly managed.
At the conference, Mr. Do Thanh Binh - Secretary of Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee said that Phu Quoc City is a locality with an important strategic position in terms of national defense and security, with many potentials and advantages for socio-economic development. After 2 years of focusing on leadership and direction to implement Resolution No. 31, the security and order situation in Phu Quoc City has changed quite well.
To enhance security and order in Phu Quoc City in the coming time, Kien Giang Provincial Party Secretary Do Thanh Binh requested that agencies and branches need to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of state management in the field of land management, review, evaluate, and point out loopholes and shortcomings in management work, not allowing subjects to take advantage of activities and violate the law.
The Secretary of the Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee also emphasized: “Phu Quoc City is on the path of strong socio-economic development. Therefore, we must aim to build Phu Quoc to ensure good security and order. When talking about Phu Quoc, the world not only knows about a brand of international-class resort and tourism center, the most wonderful tourist destination in the world, but also a cultural and civilized place, a peaceful and livable place. In the future, Phu Quoc will be the address to welcome and organize many international political, economic and cultural events”.
At the conference, the Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 9 collectives and 22 individuals with outstanding achievements in implementing Resolution 31.
