On February 15, representatives of Phu Quoc International Airport (HKQT) said that the airport just welcomed 50 international flights on February 14 (Valentine's Day), a record high since its operation in 2012.
Specifically, Phu Quoc International Airport recorded 86 inbound flights, including 50 international flights - the highest number in a day since the airport officially went into operation in 2012. Total passenger volume in a day reached 30,651 arrivals, marking a special operating milestone in the peak period before the Lunar New Year 2026.
International visitors alone reached 18,271 arrivals (9,582 arrivals and 8,689 departures), accounting for nearly 60% of the total passenger volume on the 14th. 2. Domestic visitors reached 12,380 arrivals, showing uniform excitement in both segments.
This figure also clearly reflects the strong growth momentum of Phu Quoc on the regional aviation map. This record takes place in the context that Phu Quoc is entering the peak Tet tourism season.
According to the operating plan for the 2026 Lunar New Year, flight volume and passengers through Phu Quoc International Airport are forecast to increase sharply compared to the same period last year. The total number of flights serving the 2026 Lunar New Year increased by about 50% compared to Tet 2025, with an average of about 75 flights per day, especially on peak days it can reach 80–84 flights/day. The number of passengers is expected to reach over 720 thousand, of which both domestic and international passengers have increased sharply.

This is a positive sign for tourism and local economy activities, and also poses very high requirements for the organization and operation of exploitation at the Port.
To effectively serve the peak Tet Nguyen Dan 2026, the Port has developed an exploitation plan in a proactive, synchronous and flexible direction. Specifically, the Port deploys additional personnel, vehicles, and equipment to serve; and at the same time reviews the overall infrastructure and exploitation process to promptly adjust and optimize operations in the context of increased output.
In addition, closely coordinate with relevant agencies, units and airlines to review and reorganize service procedures in areas prone to congestion such as check-in counters, security screening areas and luggage conveyor belts. On that basis, arrange to increase personnel according to peak hours, operate flexibly and promptly handle localized congestion situations, ensuring passengers are served conveniently, safely and smoothly.
In parallel with that, the Port implements items to improve service quality and operating capacity such as supplementing the Wifi system, upgrading the signal amplification system, supplementing flight information display screens, check-in counters, connecting luggage conveyor belts; and applying non-stop automatic toll collection from January 1, 2026 to reduce congestion and improve service efficiency.
Since the beginning of 2026, Sun Group has officially taken over operation and invested in upgrading and expanding the port to increase service capacity to 20 million passengers/year before APEC 2027. The project is oriented to become the world's leading modern International Airport.
