On February 10, An Giang Provincial People's Council held the 9th session (specialized session) to approve a number of important draft resolutions.
In which, the draft resolution "Decision on policy to convert forest use purposes to other purposes to implement the Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion Investment Project" has been approved.
According to An Giang Provincial People's Committee, the Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion Investment Project is invested by Sun Airport Joint Stock Company as the project investor. The total project implementation area is 198.4 ha. The area of land originating from forests is 0.60 ha (currently not planned for forestry purposes). Of which the forest land area is 0.46 ha (wooden forest planted with alum soil); The area without forest is 0.14 ha (all other areas). The area proposed for changing forest use purposes is 0.46 ha; Function is protection forest.
The Provincial People's Committee said that the Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion Investment Project serves the construction of runway expansion items to meet operating needs, ensure flight safety and serve the APEC 2027 Summit Week as directed by the Prime Minister.
The total area proposed for approval of the policy of converting forest use purposes to other purposes is 0.46 ha (All are planted forests; currently, this location is no longer planned for forestry purposes). The forest area is located at lot 1, plot 11, sub-zone 78 of Phu Quoc special zone, An Giang province.
The implementation is in accordance with the plans, not planned for forestry purposes, in accordance with the Decisions on approving the adjustment of the planning of Kien Giang province (before merger) for the period 2021-2030, vision to 2050 and approving the partial adjustment of the general planning of Phu Quoc special zone, An Giang province to 2040.
According to the land allocation and zoning plan of Kien Giang Provincial Planning (before merger) for the period 2021-2030, vision to 2050, which has been adjusted in Decision No. 594/QD-UBND, for the above-mentioned 0.60 ha area to implement the Phu Quoc International Airport expansion investment project, it is planned as traffic land.
According to the thẩm tra report of the Economic - Budget Committee of the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee submitted to the Provincial People's Council a draft Resolution deciding on the policy of converting forest use purposes to other purposes to implement the Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion Investment Project is necessary and within its authority. The project has met the criteria for determining the project to convert forest use purposes to other purposes according to the Government's regulations; Consistent with the Decision of the Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee on approving the adjustment of the planning of Kien Giang province (before merger) for the period 2021-2030, vision to 2050) and the Decision of An Giang Provincial People's Committee on approving the local adjustment of the general planning of Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, An Giang province to 2040.
