On January 10, leaders of Phu Quoc Special Zone (An Giang) said that in order to reduce the pressure of Duong Dong reservoir in the context of complex climate change, the locality has announced the economical and efficient use of production and domestic water in the dry season of 2025 - 2026.
According to the special zone leader, with the current situation, water security can be ensured through the dry season. However, in the context of the complicated climate change situation, Phu Quoc is in the early dry season, with very low rainfall and preventing bad cases from occurring.
Phu Quoc Special Zone People's Committee announces to agencies, units, special zone organizations, businesses, business households, and households in Phu Quoc Special Zone to be aware of using water economically in business and daily life to reduce the pressure of Duong Dong reservoir.
Complying with the notice also shows a sense of responsibility to the community in saving and effectively using domestic water sources, especially in the context that Phu Quoc welcomes a very large number of tourists," Chairman of Phu Quoc Special Zone People's Committee Tran Minh Khoa said.
According to a report by the An Giang Provincial Center for Clean Water and Rural Environmental Sanitation, the water level of Duong Dong reservoir recorded on December 30, 2025 was +27.95m; 0.48m higher than the water level on December 30, 2024; corresponding to the total reservoir capacity of 5.94 million cubic meters (of which the useful capacity is 5.43 million cubic meters).
Duong Dong Lake supplying raw water to An Giang One Member Limited Liability Water Supply and Drainage Company - Phu Quoc Branch ranges from about 23,000 - 24,000m3/day and night. It is expected that if the weather is most unfavorable in the dry season of 2025-2026 (hot sun, no rain), with the current reserves and supply capacity, Duong Dong Lake can supply water until about mid-August 2026.
Mr. Khoa also informed that currently a series of traffic, water supply, resettlement, environmental treatment and digital infrastructure projects are being implemented simultaneously in Phu Quoc to serve APEC 2027. In the water supply group, Duong Dong 2 lake has a scale of about 7.5 million m3, with a water supply capacity of about 49,500 m3/day and night; Cua Can lake also has a scale of 7.5 million m3.
According to Chairman of Phu Quoc Special Administrative Region People's Committee Tran Minh Khoa, the Duong Dong 2 lake project is a strategic project, playing a key role in ensuring water security for Phu Quoc, demonstrating a pioneering infrastructure investment thinking, creating a foundation for the sustainable development of coastal island cities in the long term.
The Duong Dong 2 lake investment project has a total investment of about 2,950 billion VND, aimed at ensuring water security, serving the sustainable socio-economic development of the special zone and serving the infrastructure of the APEC 2027 Summit.
