Tourists complain about room breakdown
During the recent New Year holidays, some tourists reflected on the issue of guest rooms and accommodation services in Phu Quoc (An Giang), besides the issue of water hyacinth and garbage piling on the beach causing unsightliness.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan - Vice Chairwoman of Phu Quoc Special Zone People's Committee, functional forces have immediately intervened to handle cases of tourists reflecting on booking rooms but not receiving rooms or receiving rooms not as desired. The inter-sectoral inspection team has worked, verified, and handled the issue reflected by tourists immediately.
The incident of 3 foreign tourists who booked rooms on the app but did not receive a room when they came to Your House Phu Quoc 2 guesthouse. The inspection team worked directly and requested the facility to provide information about the above incident.
The establishment said that these 3 guests had booked rooms on the Agoda app, the establishment did not have time to close the room on the OTA system, so the app displayed the received room. However, when the customer arrived, the establishment had run out of rooms, so it could not arrange rooms for customers as booked. The establishment flexibly reduced prices, changed rooms, apologized to customers...
Through inspection, because the establishment had not presented a Certificate of eligibility for security and order, the inspection team requested the establishment to stop operating accommodation from 5:00 PM on January 2, 2026 until it presented a Certificate of eligibility for security and order.

Previously, Phu Quoc also issued a notice on warning of the risk of booking hotel rooms through online applications and recommended ensuring tourist rights. Phu Quoc Special Zone People's Committee affirmed: Local authorities always pay attention to and drastically direct state management of tourism, ensuring a safe, healthy, and transparent tourism environment. Resolutely and strictly handle violations, if detected, if tourism service business establishments violate price regulations, trade fraud, and infringe on tourist rights.
Tourists complain of water hyacinth and garbage piling up on the beach
Ms. Loan also informed that recently, tourists have complained about water hyacinth and garbage piling up on the beach, causing unsightliness and affecting tourism activities.
According to Ms. Loan, in the early days of 2026, Phu Quoc entered the monsoon season (Northeast monsoon season), the sea currents brought a large amount of dry trees, seaweed, water hyacinth and waste from the Gulf of Thailand drifting ashore. Kem beach and many beautiful beaches on the island are facing a large amount of waste "falling from the sky".
This is the phenomenon of "waste according to the wind season" that Phu Quoc has to face every year. Faced with that reality, hundreds of people in resorts in Bai Kem simultaneously launched campaigns, strengthening beach cleaning to ensure landscape, environment and tourist experience.
Garbage and seaweed collection work is continuously deployed from 4 am to 11 pm every day. Especially in Bai Kem area, the number of green trees and environmental sanitation personnel is increased, maintaining an average of 90-110 people per day to treat garbage from the sea drifting ashore. Many international tourists also participate in beach cleaning work.
Not only is it a short-term response activity, beach cleaning is identified as a regular task throughout the monsoon season. Previously, in the afternoon of January 1, forces urgently collected and treated nearly 2 tons of waste, contributing to quickly restoring the natural beauty of the beach.

Ms. Loan also informed that special zone area teams have simultaneously launched propaganda to stabilize the situation at accommodation establishments, and the Traffic Police force has also strengthened patrols to regulate and divert traffic on key roads in crowded areas, causing traffic jams as reflected by passengers.
The government also has a channel to receive feedback, hotline phone numbers for tourists to reflect on tourism, prices, services, security... or scan QR codes to reflect and propose to the police.
Phu Quoc's determination is to quickly handle arising problems or tourists' reflections to create a beautiful, safe, friendly, and civilized tourism image," Ms. Loan emphasized.
