Kien Giang - The fire occurred in the land area managed by the State and land managed by Phu Quoc National Park in Group 2, Bai Bon Hamlet, Ham Ninh Commune.

According to the report of Ham Ninh Commune Police (Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang) at around 3:30 p.m. on April 9, a fire broke out in the area of land managed by the State and land managed by Phu Quoc National Park in Group 2, Bai Bon Hamlet.

Immediately after receiving the report, the authorities including Phu Quoc National Park, forest rangers, Bai Bon Hamlet People's Committee, militia, military, police and people actively participated in extinguishing the fire.

At around 8:30 p.m. the same day, the fire was basically under control. The fire did not cause any human casualties, the area of the fire has not been counted yet due to the widespread fire area and dark weather conditions.

Notably, at the scene of the fire, people discovered 2 suspects. The commune police directed the force to urgently invite the two subjects to the headquarters for questioning.

Initial information, D.V.P (born in 1988), residing in Group 6, Rach Ham Hamlet, Ham Ninh Commune; P.H.H (born in 2004), residing in Group 5, Rach Ham Hamlet, Ham Ninh Commune, were hired to spread the fields in the area where the fire occurred. During the work, P and H repeatedly smoked and threw medicine in some locations. Currently, Ham Ninh Commune Police are continuing to verify and clarify.

As soon as the information about the incident was received, the Standing Committee of Phu Quoc City Party Committee requested the City People's Committee to direct the People's Committee of Ham Ninh Commune to investigate and strictly handle those involved, directly or indirectly causing the fire because they could endanger Phu Quoc National Park.

The leaders of the City Party Committee also called on people to join hands to raise awareness of forest protection and fire prevention rather than fire fighting. Phu Quoc is currently warning of forest fires, so activities of burning fields, burning garbage, smoking and littering... have a great risk of causing forest fires.

Previously, in February 2025, Bai Thom Commune Police issued 2 Decisions to administratively sanction 2 people who had burned fields but did not ensure safety, causing a fire on people's land of about 6,000 square meters.

These two cases committed an administrative violation of using fire sources without ensuring a safe distance for fire prevention and fighting according to the provisions of law. It is worth mentioning that if the forces do not extinguish the fire in time, the fire will spread to the forest area managed by the National Park, the consequences will be very serious.
