Jackfruit weighing more than half a quintal was cut by Mr. Lang The Phuong, residing in Than Muoi village, Chi Lang commune, Lang Son province, from a jackfruit tree planted in front of his house and then transported by motorbike to the market for sale.
As soon as it appeared, the rarely seen large jackfruit quickly attracted the attention of many people. Many people going to the market stopped to watch, take pictures, and ask questions.
Ms. Luu Thi Lan, a small trader at the market, is the one who bought the jackfruit for 500,000 VND to cut and sell to customers. According to Ms. Lan, when cut, the inside of the jackfruit is very beautiful, the segments are even, golden brown, not worm-eaten or spoiled.
The jackfruit is big, so many people are curious. Cutting it open, you see beautiful segments, and in just a moment people buy it all," Ms. Lan said.
Many people buy a few segments of jackfruit not only because they want to try it but also because they are interested in a strange jackfruit. For them, tasting jackfruit from a fruit weighing more than half a ton is also a rare experience during the market trip.
Talking to PV, Mr. Lang Viet Hung, son of Mr. Lang The Phuong, said that the 53kg jackfruit tree has been planted by his family for more than ten years.
The special thing is that this tree is not a precious variety or cared for according to a special technique, but grows from the seeds of a Thai jackfruit that Mr. Phuong once bought at the market.

“In the past, my father went to the market, bought Thai jackfruit to eat and then took the seeds to plant. This tree has been planted for more than ten years, without any special care, just left it natural like that,” Mr. Hung said.
According to Mr. Hung, in previous years, jackfruit trees still bore fruit regularly but the weight was not too large, usually only about 14 - 15kg, some years about 20kg.
Some other jackfruit trees in the family garden also once yielded fruit weighing 22 - 23kg, but no fruit has ever reached 53kg like this time.
This year, at that time, the tree had few fruits, only one large fruit, so it grew bigger. This is the most special fruit of the family to date," Mr. Hung shared.
Mr. Hung's family currently has about 3-4 jackfruit trees planted around the garden. After cutting 53kg jackfruit fruit to sell at the market, there are no more fruits of similar size in the garden.
Because the jackfruit grew too large, the family used to use ropes to hold it to avoid falling. Mr. Hung said that the fruit is located in a position not too high, about human height, so when ripe, observation and harvesting are relatively convenient.
Last time, we were afraid that the fruit would fall, so the family had to use ropes to hold it back. The fruit is about human height, not too high," Mr. Hung said.
Speaking about the reason for not leaving it to eat, Mr. Hung said that the jackfruit is too large, it is difficult for the family to use it all in a short time, so they decided to bring the large fruit to the market to sell, both to avoid waste and to have a little extra income.
The fruit is too big, we can't eat it all. So the family took it to sell," Mr. Hung added.
Ms. Ngo Thi Diem, a resident of Chi Lang commune, said that the story of the large jackfruit brings simple joy to the market.
According to her, some people think that a 53kg jackfruit sold for 500,000 VND is cheap, if taken elsewhere, it may be more expensive. However, in a small mountain town, buyers are happy, sellers are happy, and people have the opportunity to see something strange together, which is enough.
Confirming with PV, leaders of Chi Lang Commune People's Committee said that the jackfruit mentioned above was planted in the garden of a household in Than Muoi village.
Previously, there was also a jackfruit weighing up to 56kg in the commune.
