The event was attended by representatives of the Military Region 5 Command, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, military generals and many retired military officers.
At the meeting, the delegates reviewed the 80-year journey of building and growing the Vietnam People's Army. The achievements and feats of arms of the army over the past 8 decades were affirmed to have made an important contribution to firmly protecting the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Fatherland. The army also plays a key role in protecting the national and ethnic interests, protecting the Party, State, People and socialist regime, while maintaining political stability and creating a peaceful environment for national construction and development.
The history of Quang Nam province marks the birth of the provincial People's Armed Forces on May 4, 1945 in Xuan Quang Commune, Tam Ky District (now Tam Quang Commune, Nui Thanh District). Through two arduous and fierce resistance wars, the province's armed forces, together with the people, wrote heroic pages of history, contributing to beautifying the glorious tradition of the Vietnam People's Army.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Secretary of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee, emphasized: Over the past 80 years, the Vietnam People's Army has always demonstrated the mettle of a revolutionary army, born from the people, fighting for the people, and absolutely loyal to the Party, the State and the people. He also expressed his deep gratitude for the sacrifices and losses of the soldiers who fell for the Fatherland, as well as the silent contributions of millions of mothers and wives who saw their husbands and children off.
On this meaningful occasion, Quang Nam province launched a high-level emulation campaign "Proud of tradition - Continuing the feat - Worthy of Uncle Ho's soldiers". The province also deployed the construction of 19 celebratory works with a total cost of 26.3 billion VND, and at the same time implemented the program "Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses", building and repairing more than 1,100 houses. In addition, the province also built 44 new gratitude houses, 43 great solidarity houses and 1 comrade house with a total cost of nearly 6 billion VND.
Quang Nam province also organized a thematic exhibition "Achievements in 80 years of building, fighting and growing of the Vietnam People's Army". The exhibition displayed more than 200 typical artifacts and images and more than 150 publications about the fighting tradition, glorious feats of arms and achievements in the cause of building, strengthening national defense and protecting the Fatherland.
