Implementing the Peak Month against IUU fishing (illegal, unreported and unregulated seafood exploitation), Quang Ngai is focusing on overcoming shortcomings in fishing vessel management, journey monitoring and traceability of seafood.
The whole province currently has 4,851 fishing vessels from 6 meters or more registered and updated on the national fishing database. Of which, 4,716 vessels still have expired fishing licenses. For vessels from 15 meters or more, nearly 99% have installed VMS cruise monitoring equipment. Localities are strictly managing vessels that do not meet operating conditions, arranging centralized anchorage, and not allowing these vehicles to go out to sea arbitrarily.
Since the beginning of the year, functional forces have controlled tens of thousands of fishing vessels entering and leaving ports and entering and leaving ports. However, the declaration on the eCDT electronic traceability system has not yet reached 100%. Some cases of vessels losing VMS connection for many days and violations still need to be further verified and handled.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Trung - Director of the Quang Ngai Provincial Fishing Ports Management Board said that fishing vessels must notify 1 hour in advance before docking at the port and carry out procedures and register before docking.
From the beginning of 2026 to now, the province has announced the opening of 4 more designated fishing ports, bringing the total number to 9 fishing ports, including 6 type II fishing ports and 3 type III fishing ports. Functional forces maintain the inspection of fishing vessels entering and leaving ports, supervise the discharged seafood output and implement traceability according to regulations.
Since the beginning of the year, nearly 12.7 thousand tons of exploited seafood have been unloaded through the port under the supervision of functional agencies. In addition, the project to upgrade and expand Tinh Hoa fishing port is being accelerated to serve more than 1,000 fishing boats anchored and unloading seafood, contributing to the development of fishery logistics. The province also proposed to the Central Government to upgrade Sa Huynh fishing port to type I and invest in Sa Can fishing port according to the plan.
According to the Provincial Sub-Department of Fisheries - Sea and Islands, to date, 100% of fishing vessels entering and leaving the port are managed through the electronic traceability system (eCDT) connecting synchronously between the fishing port and the border guard.
Exploitation logs are updated to software to serve as a basis for issuing certificates, serving traceability for export businesses. The completion of the fishing port system helps improve management efficiency, contributing to early removal of the EC "yellow card" warning.
Along with that, law enforcement and violation handling work continues to be strengthened. From the beginning of 2026 to now, functional forces have fined 42 violations with a total amount of nearly 3.1 billion VND. Among them, there are 4 cases fined for exceeding the permitted boundary at sea with a total amount of 621 million VND.
