Fishermen strictly comply
The whole province of Quang Ngai currently has more than 4,900 fishing vessels, strictly managed through 11 Border Control Stations, 5 fishing ports (Tinh Ky, Tinh Hoa, Ly Son, My A and Sa Huynh) and 5 fishing control teams.
According to the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province, from the beginning of 2025 to now, the province's fisheries management has had many clear changes. The whole province currently has 4,693 vessels licensed for exploitation, an increase of 977 vessels compared to the end of 2024, reaching nearly 96%. Notably, over 98% of fishing vessels with a length of 15m or more have installed voyage monitoring devices (VMS).
The monitoring of fishing vessels is carried out synchronously from at sea, at fishing ports, seaports, to local authorities and the fishing community. The VMS system operates effectively, helping to strictly control the journey of fishing vessels. The work of tracing the origin of aquatic products has been seriously implemented.

Fisherman Nguyen Quan (owner of QNg 94848 TS) shared that combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing is an extremely important task, of long-term significance to the development of the marine economy in general and the Vietnamese seafood industry in particular. Therefore, fishermen must fully comply with the installation of VMS equipment, maintain continuous operation and maintain regular contact with authorities throughout the long-term sea keeping process.
Quang Ngai province also focuses on investing in fisheries infrastructure, protecting and developing aquatic resources, towards sustainable development. Propaganda work on combating IUU fishing (illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing) has been maintained regularly and in diverse forms.
In particular, from the beginning of 2025 to now, no fishing vessels have violated foreign waters. The number of fishing vessels at risk of IUU violations has decreased sharply. The authorities increased patrols and controls at ports and at sea, sanctioning more than 220 violations, totaling nearly 6 billion VND.
Determined to remove the "yellow card" for seafood in 2025
According to Mr. Tran Phuoc Hien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, the province has directed relevant agencies, units, localities, organizations and individuals to urgently and focus resources on synchronously, comprehensively and drastically implementing measures to combat IUU fishing, contributing to the whole country removing the "yellow card" of the European Commission for seafood in 2025.

The leaders of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - the Standing Agency of the Provincial IUU Steering Committee to advise the Provincial People's Committee to fully, promptly and seriously implement the instructions of the Government, the Prime Minister, the National Steering Committee on IUU, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Provincial Party Committee.
The Provincial Border Guard strictly controls fishing vessels passing through the seas and beaches; resolutely does not let unqualified fishing vessels go to sea; strictly handle violations of crossing borders and illegal fishing in foreign waters. The provincial police directed the commune-level police to coordinate in managing and supervising the fleet, and even consider criminal proceedings against a number of cases to deter.
Mr. Vo Van Hai - Head of the Department of Fisheries - Sea and Islands said that in addition to sealing violating vessels, the unit also assigned the responsibility of monitoring each individual, to ensure that no vehicle circumventes the law. The province also established a data processing team to monitor fishing vessels, on duty 24/7 to promptly detect and handle cases of loss of VMS signal or exceeding the permitted boundary at sea.
