On July 19, the Office of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province said that it had just issued an official dispatch conveying the direction of Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh on researching and advising on specific mechanisms and policies for developing wards under Dong Hoi City and Dong Ha City before merging the province.
According to the direction, the Department of Finance is assigned to preside over and coordinate with the People's Committees of Dong Hoi, Dong Thuan, Dong Son, Dong Ha, Nam Dong Ha wards and relevant departments and branches to urgently complete the proposal and report to the Provincial People's Committee before September 1.
Previously, at the closing session of the 9th Quang Tri Provincial People's Council session on July 17, Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh emphasized the requirement to study and submit specific mechanisms and policies for the old Dong Hoi and Dong Ha city areas.
Dong Hoi and Dong Ha are two cities of the former Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces, with a total population of about 265,000 people.
In which, the old Dong Hoi City has an area of 155km2, with a population of about 155,000 people. After arrangement, this area is divided into three wards including Dong Hoi, Dong Thuan and Dong Son.
The old Dong Ha city had an area of 73km2, a population of about 110,000 people, and was organized into two wards, Dong Ha and Nam Dong Ha.
The two cities are about 90km apart along National Highway 1. In addition to this national highway, the Dong Hoi and Dong Ha city areas are also connected by the Ho Chi Minh road and the North-South expressway.
