Ha Tinh - Hundreds of hectares of planted forest after nearly a year of falling and breaking due to storms are slow to be exploited and cleared, causing the value of forest products to decrease significantly.

Hundreds of hectares of forest broken due to storm have not been cleared

On June 20, Mr. Nguyen Thuong Hai - Head of the Huong Khe Protection Forest Management Board said that the unit is currently completing procedures to carry out the exploitation and liquidation of 87.2 hectares of planted forest damaged by storm No. 5 (storm Kajiki occurred at the end of August 2025) and storm No. 10 (storm Bualoi occurred at the end of September 2025) in 2025.

Previously, on June 3, Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee issued a decision to liquidate planted forests damaged by storm No. 5 and storm No. 10 in 2025 with an area of 87.2 ha in Huong Do and Phuc Trach communes. This is a forest managed by the Huong Khe Protection Forest Management Board.

This is a production forest with acacia hybrid plants, planted in the years 2014 and 2015. The total initial investment value is more than 2.6 billion VND. The form of liquidation is selling exploited forest products.

In early May 2026, Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee also issued a decision approving the liquidation of 510.6 hectares of planted forest damaged by storm No. 5 and storm No. 10 under the management of the Nam Ha Tinh Protection Forest Management Board.

The investment value for 510.6 hectares of planted forest damaged is more than 12.4 billion VND. Of which, planting according to project 661 is more than 1.4 billion VND; planting according to forest protection and development project is more than 11 billion VND.

Liquidation form: Cutting down and cleaning 132.8 ha of forest; selling exploited forest products 377.8 ha.

Also at the beginning of May 2026, Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee issued a decision to liquidate 159.46 hectares of planted forest damaged by storm No. 5 and storm No. 10 in 2025 under the management of the Ke Go Nature Reserve Management Board.

The liquidated forest type includes protection forests and production forests with trees such as ironwood, acacia, gong, re. This forest area was planted from 2010 to 2019. The total initial investment value is more than 4.7 billion VND.

Slow liquidation reduces the value of forest products

Regarding the forest collapsing due to storms but approving liquidation after nearly a year, Mr. Nguyen Thuong Hai - Head of Huong Khe Protection Forest Management Board said that due to the large damaged forest area, it took a lot of time to investigate, survey and build dossiers.

Mr. Hoang Quoc Huan - Head of Ha Tinh Forest Protection Department also said that the dossiers and procedures related to the liquidation of planted forests damaged by storms No. 5 and No. 10 in 2025 are slow due to slow investigation, statistics, and dossier preparation from grassroots levels, from forest management boards, so they have to be extended many times.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Hung - Deputy Director of Ha Tinh Department of Agriculture and Environment said that the delay in dossiers and procedures for liquidating planted forests damaged by storms No. 5 and No. 10 in 2025 is due to the large area, while the human resources of forest management boards are thin, so it takes a lot of time to survey, statistics, and prepare dossiers for approval. The delay in exploitation and liquidation of fallen forests due to storms will affect the value of liquidated forest products, reducing the value of forest products. However, procedures must still be carried out to ensure full compliance with regulations to be exploited and liquidated.
