On August 21, the Traffic Police Department of Quang Ngai Provincial Police informed that due to the impact of a tropical depression causing prolonged heavy rain. In communes in the western area, the sudden increase in rainfall has led to landslides on many key traffic routes.
In which, National Highway 40B (the section connecting Quang Ngai province to Da Nang) at Km180+500 experienced serious landslides, mud and soil overflowing onto the road surface, causing cuts and traffic unsafety.
The Traffic Police force has organized checkpoints and placed warning signs of danger at both ends of the landslide area.
Directly regulate and divert traffic from afar; guide vehicles to move to the old National Highway 40B to ensure a safe route.
According to initial records, at Km180+500, National Highway 40B (Mang Roi pass bypass), belonging to Kon Dao commune, Quang Ngai province, the length of the landslide point extends more than 50m, the volume of soil and rock overflowing into the road surface is about 3m high, with more than 10,000m3, causing traffic congestion in both directions.
The Traffic Police force quickly coordinated with local authorities, the Department of Construction and road management units to mobilize maximum excavators and specialized trucks to clear the road surface as soon as possible.

Currently, the authorities are focusing on handling other key landslides, including: on National Highway 40B (Km182+100, Km181+500, Km180+800, Km178+700, Km168+900, Km168+400, Km167, Km164+400, Km161+400,…); on Provincial Road 672 (Km46, Km46+900, Km55+400,...) and other dangerous mountain passes and slopes.
Up to now, some landslide points have been cleared; large landslide points have been and are being mobilized by functional forces with all machinery to overcome. In the immediate future, maintain one-way traffic, gradually clear the road surface, and restore traffic. If the weather is favorable, it is expected that the route will be temporarily cleared in the next 1-2 days.
In order to ensure the safety of life and property for people during the rainy and storm season, the Traffic Police Department recommends that people should limit traffic through mountain passes, slopes, and areas prone to landslides during heavy rain or immediately after storms.
