On January 22, Harvest Waste Vietnam Co., Ltd., led by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung - Director of the Company - as the head of the delegation, came to explore investment opportunities for a waste treatment project combined with power generation in Ca Mau province.
Mr. To Minh Duong - Deputy Director of Ca Mau Department of Industry and Trade - said that the collection and treatment of domestic waste still faces many difficulties, high costs, and scattered waste sources. The investment in a waste treatment plant combined with electricity generation is in line with the sustainable development orientation of the province, but the location and scale of the project must be consistent with the electricity industry plan and the provincial plan. "It is necessary to calculate the transportation distance, collection plan, electricity connection and economic efficiency to ensure feasibility," Mr. Duong stated.

Faced with the reality that investors are interested but the planning is not synchronized, Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee organized meetings to collect opinions on adjusting the planning of waste treatment plants.
Mr. Huynh Thanh Dung, Deputy Director of Ca Mau Department of Agriculture and Environment, said that through review, there are 6 solid waste treatment locations and waste power plant planning locations approved in the planning of Ca Mau province (old) and Bac Lieu province (old), including 3 solid waste treatment areas and 3 waste power plant planning locations.

Previously, the Provincial People's Committee approved the investment policy for the Nam Can Waste Power Plant Project, built in Dat Moi commune, with an area of about 20ha, a treatment capacity of 600 tons of waste/day, a power generation capacity of 6MW, and waste treatment for the areas of Phan Ngoc Hien, Tan An, Dat Mui, Nam Can, Dat Moi and Tam Giang.
In addition to the above project, the Department of Agriculture and Environment proposed adjusting the planning of the Phuoc Long - Hong Dan cluster waste treatment area, expanding the existing landfill area in Phuoc Long commune from 4.2ha to 20ha, ensuring land fund to build a waste treatment plant.
Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee implements the adjustment of the Provincial Plan for the period 2021 - 2030, vision to 2050; including adjusting the location of waste treatment plants and waste power plants. The review of the plan creates a basis for inviting investment, aiming to fundamentally solve the problem of domestic waste in the province.
Previously, from June 16, 2025, the Ca Mau City Waste Treatment Plant - the only waste treatment plant in Ca Mau province - stopped receiving waste to wait for the issuance of treatment unit prices. The suspension of operation caused difficulties in collecting, transporting, and treating domestic waste.

At the same time, the project to renovate and thoroughly treat pollution at the waste landfill in Hoa Binh district (old Bac Lieu province) stopped being implemented, and the amount of waste generated daily was not thoroughly treated. After the province's merger and the end of the operation of the district-level administrative unit, the People's Committees of newly established communes were confused in organizing the collection and treatment of waste.
Household waste in Ca Mau province is collected and taken to collection points for landfill. Chairman of Ca Mau Provincial People's Council Pham Van Thieu proposed that the Provincial People's Committee have solutions, call for investment in building factories, voters and People's Council delegates cannot accept the situation of waste overload.
