At the end of 2025 and the beginning of the new year 2026, in the central wards of Thanh Hoa province such as Hac Thanh, Ham Rong, Dong Quang, Quang Phu, domestic waste was repeatedly congested and piled up on roads and streets.

Most recently, on the 3rd day of Binh Ngo Tet, people in Dong Quang ward blocked garbage trucks from entering the Dong Nam landfill (which is the collection point for domestic waste of the central wards of Thanh Hoa province, currently overloaded), causing congestion to continue to occur. Waste during Tet days of people piled up in piles on many roads and streets.
According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, in the face of garbage congestion after Tet, on February 24 and 25, Thanh Hoa Environment and Urban Joint Stock Company (garbage collection unit) mobilized forces and vehicles to urgently collect and transport the amount of garbage accumulated for many days.

As of the morning of February 25th, on streets and roads in the central wards of Thanh Hoa province, waste has been transported and collected cleanly. Only a small part of the collection points, which are bulky peach branches and Tet flowers, have not been collected and are being collected on the sidewalks.
Talking to a reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the leaders of Thanh Hoa Environment and Urban Joint Stock Company confirmed that for many days, people in Dong Quang ward have blocked garbage trucks from entering the Southeast landfill, causing garbage to accumulate in the central wards of the province. This is also the 4th time people have blocked garbage trucks from entering this landfill. This blockade took place after Tet, the amount of garbage generated increased sharply, causing a larger volume of accumulation.
Faced with the above situation, we have worked with some other landfills in the province to handle the amount of garbage congested in the central area. Up to now (February 25), the collection and treatment have basically been completed" - representative of Thanh Hoa Environment and Urban Joint Stock Company said.

It is known that after many times of blocking vehicles from entering the Southeast landfill (due to overloaded landfill, causing pollution), Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has directed the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to coordinate with relevant units and localities to come up with a plan, arrange collection points, treat waste, and prevent congestion, causing unsightliness and pollution.
According to statistics from the Thanh Hoa Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, from February 12 to the end of February 19, the total volume of waste received to the Southeast domestic waste treatment plant reached 4,559 tons, an average of about 650 tons/day. On February 16 (29th day of the twelfth lunar month), the amount of waste reached 1,193 tons, 2.38 times the designed capacity of the plant. The sudden increase in waste, coupled with rainy and humid weather, has caused odors and insects to occur, affecting some households in the surrounding area.
Faced with the above situation, on February 22, Thanh Hoa Department of Agriculture and Environment requested 7 central wards of the province to proactively contact and sign contracts with solid domestic waste treatment units inside and outside the province; and at the same time, divert and transport waste to other treatment areas to reduce the load on the Southeast domestic waste treatment plant, urgently resolving the amount of accumulated waste. As of February 24, waste in 7/7 central wards has been and is being collected and transported to temporary collection points and other treatment areas in the province.
