On January 24, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City sent an urgent document to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City on the coordination of collection, transportation and treatment of daily -life solid waste, ensuring urban security in the area.
On the evening of January 23, at the Vietnam Solid Waste Solutions Company Limited (VWS) in the Da Phuoc Solid Waste Treatment Complex and Cemetery (Binh Chanh District), there was an incident where workers stopped working collectively due to unpaid wages and Tet bonuses. The incident caused the Da Phuoc landfill to stop accepting waste from 7 p.m. the same day.
In order to respond to the emergency situation, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approve the transfer of domestic waste from Da Phuoc to landfill No. 3 (belonging to the Northwest Waste Treatment Complex, Cu Chi district).
According to the plan, all household waste from Thu Duc City and districts being transported to Da Phuoc will be diverted to landfill No. 3.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approve the City Urban Environment Company Limited (CITENCO) to deploy backup plans to receive waste volume from 2,000 to 6,000 tons/day.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment also proposed allowing CITENCO to use other backup landfills such as landfills No. 1, 1A and No. 2 if necessary, while ensuring resources to effectively operate landfill No. 3.
In order to facilitate the smooth operation of garbage transport vehicles, the Department of Transport is requested to organize traffic for garbage trucks to circulate 24/24 hours from January 24 to the end of February 2025. At the same time, this agency needs to coordinate with localities to adjust routes, ensure traffic safety and avoid local congestion.
Some major roads such as Provincial Road 8, Tam Tan Road, Road No. 1 in the Northwest Waste Treatment Area will also be inspected, reinforced and maintained if necessary.
Ho Chi Minh City Police will support traffic flow and prioritize garbage transport vehicles to move quickly, ensuring that there is no garbage congestion in the area.
