Ho Chi Minh City - 1.4 km of road along Xuyen Tam canal, the section from Luong Ngoc Quyen street to Vam Thuat river (An Nhon ward), officially technically opened to traffic on the morning of September 2.

The road section opened to traffic is located on the left bank of Xuyen Tam canal, newly built with a width of 6 - 11m.

After technical traffic opening, the contractor continues to complete items such as sidewalks, lighting systems, green trees and landscapes.

This is one of the items belonging to package XL-03, the section from Luong Ngoc Quyen street to Vam Thuat river, started in May 2025.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Duy - Deputy Director of Hong An Company (representative of the contractor consortium of package XL-03), said that immediately after the commencement of construction, the unit organized 6 construction teams, deploying simultaneously on both banks of the canal.

Because the left bank was handed over the site early, the contractor concentrated 20-30 vehicles and 50-70 workers, continuously constructing day and night to be technically cleared for National Day 2/9.

In the coming time, the contractor will complete the remaining items on the left bank, and at the same time transfer construction teams to the right bank to upgrade, expand and strengthen more than 1.4 km of existing roads to build technical trenches, connect drainage culverts and construct the road surface.

According to the plan, the right bank will be opened to traffic by the end of November, and the entire XL-03 package will be completed by the end of 2026.

Package XL-03 builds a dyke along both banks with a total length of about 2.7 km, and at the same time dredges the canal bed 3.5m deep and 20m wide.

The project also builds more than 2.84 km of traffic roads along both banks of the canal. Drainage, lighting and technical trenches are synchronously invested. The green strip along the canal is 3.5 - 21m wide, including miniatures and park space with a total area of about 2.88 ha.

According to Mr. Duong Van Kim - Vice Chairman of An Nhon Ward People's Committee, the project affects 138 households and organizations in the area.

Initial site clearance work encountered some difficulties due to the project being implemented through two legal periods, leading to differences in compensation policies.

After departments, branches and the city agreed on the plan, the ward government coordinated with the Fatherland Front Work Committee and the Compensation Council to strengthen propaganda, explanation, and mobilization of people.

Thanks to the consensus of the people, An Nhon ward completed the handover of the site on December 31, 2025, becoming the locality that completed this work earliest.

Mr. Duong Van Kim assessed that the technical opening of 1.4 km of the left bank road is a welcome milestone for the locality. The new, spacious road, completed quickly, surprised and excited many people.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh Dung - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board, said that for the remaining two bidding packages, XL-01 and XL-02, the Project Management Board is building a preliminary roadmap framework, expected to be completed in the next 7-10 days.

The completion of the detailed progress aims to accelerate construction, ensure feasibility and aim for the goal of completing and handing over the entire Xuyen Tam canal project on December 31, 2027, according to the direction of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

The project to dredge and renovate Xuyen Tam canal, the section from Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal to Vam Thuat river, is nearly 9 km long.

Of which, the main route is more than 6.6 km long and the three branch routes Cau Son, Binh Loi and Binh Trieu are more than 2.2 km long.

The total investment of the project is more than 17,200 billion VND from the Ho Chi Minh City budget. When completed, the project is expected to improve drainage capacity, urban embellishment, reduce pollution and form a system of traffic roads and public space along Xuyen Tam canal.
