Ho Chi Minh City - Entering the peak period after Tet, Tan Son Nhat airport welcomed a record number of passengers, with more than 170,000 passengers on the 4th day of Tet.

According to the Tan Son Nhat Airport Operations Center, on the 4th day of Tet, the airport served a total of 1,037 take-off and landing flights (including 962 passenger flights). Total passenger volume reached the highest level since the beginning of the peak season: more than 170,000 passengers. This number increased by about 50,000 passengers compared to normal days, an increase of 15% compared to the same period last year and officially surpassed initial forecasts (the highest was about 165,000 passengers). This is also a record for the number of passengers passing through the airport to date.

Exploitation pressure is currently mainly concentrated in the coming direction when people from northern and central provinces and cities flock to Ho Chi Minh City after the Tet holiday. The number of visitors reached nearly 100,000 people (domestic visitors alone were 75,714), while outbound visitors reached about 70,000 people (domestic visitors were 40,982).

For the international market, the airport welcomed nearly 60,000 inbound and outbound passengers (29,921 outbound and 29,181 inbound), maintaining high growth momentum with many tourists starting their spring travel journey in Vietnam.

This is the second consecutive day that the number of passengers is maintained at a very high level. Previously, on the 3rd day of Tet, the airport also operated 922 flights, carrying more than 151,000 passengers. Although the number of passengers and flights increased sharply, representatives of Tan Son Nhat International Airport affirmed that there was no prolonged major congestion. Operating pressure has been significantly relieved thanks to the reasonable allocation between terminals.

To ensure smooth traffic flow, the airport has coordinated with units to increase personnel, remote diversion and regulate passengers according to time slots. The flexible arrangement of check-in counters, conveyor belts, departure gates and solutions applying biometric identification have significantly shortened the check-in time for passengers.

It is forecasted that in the last days of the holidays, when people return to Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast region to work, the number of passengers through Tan Son Nhat airport will continue to be maintained at a level close to the record level today.Accordingly, the 2 peak days are forecast to fall on February 22nd and 23rd, 2026 (the 6th and 7th days of the first lunar month of Binh Ngo year) with about 1,025 flights/day.

Authorities recommend that passengers when arriving at the airport need to prepare complete documents, closely monitor flight information and carefully check terminals (T1, T2 or T3) to avoid confusion. At the same time, passengers should proactively arrive at the airport at least 2 hours early for domestic flights and 3 hours for international flights to avoid delays.
