On August 7, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Khac Hanh - Chairman of Phuoc Long Ward People's Committee (Dong Nai city) said that the locality is coordinating with relevant units to overcome the truck collapse of part of Dak Lung bridge.
The truck collapsed the bridge, causing traffic disruption on both sides of the bridge. In addition, the incident also affected water supply and the bridge is a provincial-level historical relic.
According to the leader of Phuoc Long Ward People's Committee, Dak Lung bridge is an iron bridge, both ends of the bridge have signs prohibiting vehicles with a tonnage of over 1 ton. Both sides of the bridge have domestic water supply pipes for people.
Mr. Nguyen Khac Hanh said that this is a bridge classified as a historical relic. The bridge dates back to the anti-American resistance war, about 20 years ago the bridge was restored.
Regarding people's traffic, the leader of Phuoc Long Ward People's Committee said that the scene of the bridge collapse is being cordoned off for remediation. The locality has guided people to travel through An Luong bridge (more than 1 km away) and Thac Me bridge (about 4-5 km away, this is the main road) to go from Phuoc Long center towards Phu Nghia.
Regarding water supply, last night a temporary pipeline was connected to restore water supply to people, but the water flowed very slowly. The complete repair of the water supply incident must wait for the truck site to be handled.
Currently, a truck with a bridge crane with a very large load is still lying on the bridge. The Ward People's Committee has discussed with the vehicle owner to dispatch another crane from Ho Chi Minh City to the scene for rescue. Today, functional forces will coordinate to rescue the vehicle in distress.
Regarding the bridge repair plan, Phuoc Long Ward People's Committee will coordinate with the Department of Construction to re-examine the site. In the immediate future, the Ward People's Committee proposes to repair and restore the bridge for motorbikes to circulate. In the long term, propose to Dong Nai City People's Committee to allocate public investment capital to build a new concrete bridge in this area.
Suspected truck went the wrong way, lost brakes and crashed into a bridge
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that at about 4 am on August 6, a truck with Ho Chi Minh City license plate was traveling in the direction from Phuoc Long Victory Monument to Thac Mo Hydropower Plant.
When not far from Dak Lung bridge, the vehicle was identified as having a technical problem, crashing into the bridge with strong force, causing the Dak Lung bridge structure to collapse. The truck fell into the old Song Be bridge area, located near Thac Mo Hydropower Plant. At the time of the accident, there were 2 people on the truck. The strong collision injured 1 person who was supported by people to be taken to medical care.
According to the leader of Phuoc Long Ward People's Committee, the incident is suspected to be caused by a driver who went wrong onto a road with a sign prohibiting trucks over 1 ton from crossing Dak Lung bridge. When going towards the bridge, there was no point to turn around. After that, suspecting that the truck lost its brakes, it rushed towards the bridge. About 30m from the scene of the bridge collapse, the brake pad of the broken car was found. Currently, the cause of the incident is being investigated and clarified by the police agency.
