HUE - After nearly 5 months of construction, Binh Thanh bridge has reached more than 60% of the construction value, aiming to replace the dilapidated suspension bridge after about 25 years of operation.
After nearly 5 months of construction, the construction site of Binh Thanh bridge in Binh Dien commune (Hue City) entered the peak period with many construction teams operating simultaneously.Cranes, barges, mechanical equipment and dozens of engineers and workers are working continuously to take advantage of favorable weather before the rainy and storm season.By early August 2026, the project has completed all drilled piles of two abutments and five bridge piers.The contractor has completed 18/24 Super T beams, and at the same time installed the first bridge spans. The items of abutment M1, abutment base M2 and piers T1 to T4 have been completed; pier T5 is under construction.Accumulated realized value reached more than 33.4 billion VND, equivalent to about 60.9% of the construction value; the investor assessed that the project basically ensured progress.Workers are arranged into many teams, taking on tasks to serve the construction of bridge items.Vehicles and machinery are mobilized to serve the construction.Trucks continuously transport materials to the construction site.The approach road item at both ends of the bridge is still a bottleneck due to the lack of soil transport roads between the two bridge abutments.In August, the contractor plans to cast 5 more Super T beams, complete pier T5, abutment M2 and continue to install the remaining spans.The project is built to replace the Binh Thanh suspension bridge that has deteriorated after about 25 years of operation, ensuring connection with National Highway 49 and surrounding areas.The need to build a new bridge became urgent after the accident on November 21, 2024, when a garbage truck passed the bridge and fell into the Huu Trach River, killing two people. The Hue City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board requested the contractor to increase manpower and equipment to complete the project before December 31, 2026.
The Binh Thanh bridge project was started on March 11, 2026 with a total investment of more than 75 billion VND from the local budget to replace the Binh Thanh suspension bridge across the Huu Trach River.
The project has a total length of about 500m, of which the bridge section is 254.5m long, 8.5m wide, including 6 Super T girder spans; approach roads at both ends of the bridge are 9m wide, and at the same time invest in lighting, drainage and synchronous items.
The investor sets a goal to complete the project before December 31, 2026, shortening the construction time to about one year compared to the initial plan.
