On September 21, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Hong Tu - Deputy Director of Vietnam Expressway Service Joint Stock Company (VECS) said that up to now, the site clearance for the landslide area at Km241+700 on the Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway has been basically completed. The construction unit is completing the installation of stone cages, steel nets and ditches to limit landslides.
"There are 3 landslides that have been repaired this time, it is expected that 2 locations will be completed on September 30. The remaining location due to the addition of an additional reinforced concrete retaining wall should last until about October 10, Mr. Nguyen Hong Tu informed.

Previously, a serious landslide on the Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway occurred in early August, passing through Lao Cai province, causing a big impact on the traffic lane towards Hanoi.
According to records at the scene, rocks and soil from the negative slope slid down close to the edge of the road, posing a potential safety risk to vehicles passing by.

Discovering the incident, the expressway operator promptly implemented a temporary diversion plan. Vehicles heading towards Hanoi are allowed to exit the highway, move along National Highway 4E and re-enter the IC17 intersection (Xuan Giao).
After clearing the soil and rocks for traffic in step 1, the authorities continued to level the remaining land on the road and regulate and ensure traffic safety.

The initial cause was determined to be due to prolonged heavy rain over many days, causing water to penetrate deeply, disconnecting the soil and rock structure at the positive slope, leading to landslides.
The Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway has a total length of 264 km, put into operation in September 2014 with the starting point at the intersection between National Highway 2 and Bac Thang Long Noi Bai Expressway; the end point at Bat Xat Commune, Lao Cai Province.
On September 27, the Yen Bai - Lao Cai section expansion construction project of the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway will officially start construction to ensure traffic demand on the route.
The project aims to invest in expanding the section from Km123+080 - Km244+155 with a total length of 121.33 km (expanding the road surface from 2 lanes to 4 lanes, road surface width of 24m, with a median strip.
